Echoing the sentiment that it could maybe use some more hand-holding in regards to how to play it, BUT the art and sound design were super cool and unique, and the concept seemed great. I was impressed by the narrator animation.

I was a little confused but its still nice!

This is really neat! I had a tough time reading the font, but the aesthetic is really strong and I like the concept, though it took me a while to figure out how to do things and what exactly my objective was. Once I got there though, I could EASILY see how this could get really engaging, really fast.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I plugged in final objective pretty late into the jam, it was supposed to be just defend until you die... And that felt.. Really unsatisfying. Like it works in Tetris, but not in Aurora, no idea why.
So yeah it really needs another tutorial <3
But I hope you enjoyed it and DO try the Challenge if you dig the gameplay

The concept was really interesting, also it might take a while it understand what is happening. Even after getting the hangs of it, it's pretty easy to lose everything, those enemies sure spread quickly. I really liked the idea and the visuals. Amazing work

Developer

Hey, thanks! I DO think there's some problem with a difficulty in the curve. If you intercept everything - game is really-really easy, but if you let one or two small ships take root - SUDDENLY the game is really hard.
Which is probably the opposite of what you want. Like it should be easier for people who struggle and harder for those who don't. I wonder if I can do that..

I really like the art and design. Gameplay was a bit confusing at first, some more handholding/tutorial would be nice for noobs like me but then I started to understand and it was satisfying... it just took some time.

Developer

Hey! Thanks for taking time to learn it! I think there's a cool feeling of discovery "oh this is how it actually works" that I personally really enjoy in gaming. Glad if you had that moment in Aurora <3

Pretty solid game! A little confusing at first and takes some time to get to grips with it. But very interesting game I enjoyed it quite a bit! Plenty of challenge too, might be a bit niche for this particular jam but would like to see an expanded version of something like this in future! Good work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! It was sitting in my mind for a long time and Scream didn't have a theme it was a perfect opportunity to come back to that idea.

And yeah from all the comments I see more and more that it needs MORE onboarding. Maybe a full tutorial how moving works, combat works, scanning works and only THEN drop into story mode.

I scanned all planets and then I realized that R resets the game. great.. It was very fun! great sounds!

Developer

Noo! I really forgot to remove all the debug controls for the game
So sorry about that T.T
But I'm glad you liked it anyway <3

Difficult. But good atmosphere and mystery.

Developer(+1)

It is really a dev's curse of always feeling "my game is too easy". Or perhaps my personal curse.

Thank you for trying it <3
It's really hard for me to put myself into the mind of a player that sees the game for the first time. And NOT to use the knowledge of the game I designed when playtesting. Will defo try toning down difficulty on future projects

Submitted(+1)

No no. not just your curse. Ive suffered from it too. trust me.

Wow I played for over 30 minutes in Story mode after I figured out what to do.

I ended up in the corner with about 10 military ships, but we weren't strong enough to take and hold anywhere else.

That was fun.

Developer

Nice! A perfect opportunity to try Challenge ^,.,^

I think my biggest failure with the story is yeah teaching a player to move a manufacture world on top of the jump node to enable end game. It's probably the most confusing part. Tutorials are so hard to do :(

The environment is insanely beautiful, I love the pixel art style! Great job on the environmental immersion! It is a little bit hard to read the commands and the actions because of the size and font, esp in the rectangle that appears when you ctrl + h.  I am not used to these kind of gameplay, but I still had fun trying to defend myself amongst the planets!

Developer

Thank you!
I agree about the font. I think it's somewhat more cool than readable, but it is so much vibes :D

Gameplay is largely inspired by Company of Heroes style of games, but true that RTS in general is a bit dying genre, so less and less people get exposed to it. Hopefully we can change that <3
