What stage you keep dying at?
Is it stage 1 box? ( if is box you just need to touch box and press e.. Every boxs )
Or
Stage 2 race? ( if is race.. You just need to touch Koopa by catch up to him.. And boom!!!! )

I think you supposed to press e and touch box without moving at same time to check inside all boxes ( and also dodge enemies at stage 1 at the same time.. Yes you can hurt some enemies.. But not all them.. At least not in stage 1 for know ) So if you can't hurt enemies.. You should instead dodge them attacks.. While also check inside the boxes )

( i hope this helps too!!!!.. And yeah.. I do agree add skip choose can very useful to add to avoid being annoying or frustrating ( Especially when you already try the game for first time. So I keep that in mind :) )
