Use of the limitation
I initially was frustrated with the limitation as I had an idea for a wizard game without cats. However, I decided to use that frustration and made a game about destroying as many cats as you can as a wizard on a surfboard.

Love spamming ult, man. I like that you make it recharge super-fast. Make me able to get past procrastination and use it. The arts and sound effect is fire!

A nice little shmup! The art style is cute and the sound effects are nice. It's pretty easy compared to other shmups I've played, which isn't a bad thing, especially for a jam. The sound effects for killing many enemies at once was satisfying. One thing I noticed is the sound for using the super seems much louder compared to the rest of the game, so you might consider lowering the volume on that. Other than that, nice job!

Thanks for playing! I rushed the sound effects at the end so didn't have much time to tinker with the sound but yea in hindsight it does sound very loud. I'll change that if I update the game :)

This is amazing! Even though I’m kinda bad at dodging in these arcade shooters like this, it’s still really addictive lol I always love the GB aesthetic, and this is pretty smooth and fun. I also really like the UI and the art direction as well. They looks very nice and polished!

Also, this might be a bit irrelevant, but you itch page set up is very cool :D

Developer

Thanks for playing and the feedback. Appreciate the mention of the itch page I spent a good half hour making it look nice!

I really like the concept! I used to enjoy these kinds of minigames. The only thing missing is a [Z] key fire sound effect and in the main menu when I pressed [Enter] to play (instead of [X]) the pause menu popped up instead. I even made it all the way to the big chunky boss! I also appreciate the use of "enchanted" themed wizard.

Developer

Thanks for playing! There should be a shoot sound effect but I think it’s very quiet when the music is going so I’ll work on that :)

Really really cool game. Reminds me of those older arcade games. The art and juice are on point, attacks feel super satisfying,. The progression felt smooth and ramped up nicely, it's very addicting. If I had to change one thing, I'd make the ultimate take a bit longer to charge and be a bit longer to really make it more exciting to use it. Really nice job man!

Thanks for playing and the feedback. I agree I could have balanced out the super a little more, maybe if I go back and update it I will address that issue :)

Ultimate be like: bloorororororororolloooo)

Thanks for playing :)

Cooking with art as always. I also enjoyed the music and the attack patterns of all the cats. The controls were hard to figure out at first, so if there is a better way to display them at the beginning, that would be useful. Great Job!

Developer

Thanks for playing mate hope you're doing well. Yea with pico 8 as a game engine it makes it difficult to show the right button prompts as it only allows 2 buttons and just assumes you already know which keys on the keyboard they are binded to.

Nothing beats a good shmup, always a welcome treat! <3

Congrats on your work! It's smooth, effective, and fun! The wizard's hitbox is a bit tricky to deal with, but that's part of the game!

Aside from that, I'm a dev myself, and seeing PICO-8 in action really makes me want to give it a try. I might consider using it for a future jam. Sounds like an exciting little challenge!

Great job to both of you!

Thanks for playing! You should definitely give pico 8 a try, its perfect for jams as it almost forces you to keep your scope small.

My feedback will be short because I had a long, long loooooooooong text in Google Translate, since I don't speak English, but I accidentally refreshed the page, so it will be a summary: the music and sounds are great with a PERFECT art style, I love 8x8 or 16x16 art in that size, and the premise is quite different from a space shooter about a wizard flying on a flying platform shooting magic shots that, when hit, can do a Kamehameha. Only the tutorial and the beginning are meh. I know you should read the game description before playing it, but I don't. I didn't know what to press to start the game, I thought of pressing enter to use it, I clicked continue thinking it was to continue save (even though I didn't have one), nothing happened, then I went to reset card, thinking it would create a reset save and then I could play, but no, after pressing all the keys on the keyboard I saw it was x, but... rest, great

Thanks for playing! Yea unfortunately there is no way to get rid of that pause menu as it is built into the game engine. I could have made it more clear what to press but I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
