The Biggest Challenge
Pattern Drop is an existing AI-assisted project making its first game-jam submission, with its public bilingual browser release on 19 October 2026. The main challenge was combining falling four-tile pieces with readable match-three cascades, separating a straightforward Classic mode from a special-tile Fun mode, and making the diagrams and controls work in a compact portrait layout. Human direction and playtesting shaped the rules; automated tests and real browser checks caught layout and embedded-game focus issues during release preparation. The optional themes are not used.
AI Tools Used
OpenAI ChatGPT/Codex for assisted programming, debugging, tests and text localization; AI image generation for the home-screen illustrations. Game direction and playtesting by Night Shang.
Areas Where AI Was Used
Code, home-screen artwork, interface/help text and English localization. Music and credited sound recordings are separately licensed (Joth and Dustyroom, CC0); other gameplay cues are procedural synthesis.

It's a spin on the familiar tetris and match-3 formulas. It follows the basic rule set. Other than that there's honestly not much of originality.
Functionally the game is fine, I'd add some tutorials in the game for those unfamiliar with the genre.
I just don't find these kinds of games fun, and I think you probably submitted two similar games so my opinion would be the same on both. I also think the appeal of these games for players on mobile is that they tend to be extremely visually appealing with extremely responsive UI's and animations and sound effects that hit the dopamine centers of the brain. A simple clean minimalist version isn't the right theme for this genre in my opinion.
