Reminds of of the NES Zelda games.

Bug: I got stuck in a tree when I tried to interact with this door. I don't know how I got stuck but now my character cannot move out of the tree.

This took me back. Pixel-art adventures like this are always a pleasure to play. One thing though: the in-game text seems to have gone through the same pixel treatment as the art, and it came out blurry enough that I had trouble reading it.

The hooded hero with just two glowing eyes is a great look, and the village plays like real Zelda: tight movement, a snappy sword, and a cutscene you can skip in one press. Ran clean on your itch page with no errors.

Two things I hit on build 20139650:

- Hold an arrow key, switch to another browser tab, let go there, then come back: the hero keeps walking on his own. Mine walked off the village screen into the next one east before a rock stopped him. The same hold released with the game focused stops dead. The keys object only clears on keyup, and nothing clears it on blur. Likely fix (untested): addEventListener("blur", function () { keys = {}; });

- Pressing G during play fills all three gems at once and jumps the quest to "Return to Elder Maren" (keydown handler, the "g" line next to the M and B checks). Looks like a test shortcut that got left in. If a voter bumps G, they skip the three shrines. If it's on purpose, ignore me.

Thanks so much for playing and for the kind words! Both bugs are fixed in the latest build: the G shortcut is gone, so you'll have to earn all three gems now, and switching tabs no longer leaves Legacy walking on his own. Really appreciate you catching those!

Checked build 20161106: both fixed. A key released in another tab now stops the hero where he stands (the new blur/visibilitychange clearInput does it), and G does nothing, gems stay empty until you earn them. Thanks for turning it around so fast, good luck in the jam.
