Hey everyone

i've been working on Last Warmth for a while now. its a small village builder in a storybook style, your buildings thaw the frozen land around them and at night these frost creatures come for the village

honestly i dont know anymore if its fun or if i just got used to it. i've played it so many times i cant see it with fresh eyes, so i would really really appreciate if someone could give it a few minutes

the things im most unsure about:

  • did you understand what to do in the first minutes or did you feel lost?
  • the first nights, too hard, too easy, or did you just not care if you lose?
  • was there a moment you wanted to close it? even if its small, i want to know when

it runs in the browser, free demo: https://kibbitz.itch.io/last-warmth

even one liNe helps me. and if you have a game here too leave the link, i will play it and tell you honestly what i think. thank you for reading this

I played your game, and first of all, I want to say that the art looks amazing!

Before answering your questions, I wanted to point out a few things. I didn't really like having to use the right mouse button to interact with things. It feels pretty unintuitive. Also, during the first few minutes, I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to do. The crafting menu isn't very intuitive either, and the constant arrows are distracting.

  • Honestly, I was pretty confused at first. I only started figuring things out after feeding the fire about 10 times. The game really needs a clearer tutorial.
  • Easy! I didn't have any trouble and everything went smoothly.
  • After the first night, I didn't really feel motivated to keep playing. There were also some performance issues in the browser. I'd say the game really needs more satisfying feedback and a stronger sense of reward for your actions.

But overall, I think your game is really good! Keep working on it, and I'm sure you can make something great out of it!

Here's a link to my game. I'd really appreciate it if you could give it a try and leave a completely honest review too!

Thank you for your feedback! This is something I'm trying to think about - how to make it engaging and give reasons to continue, without being too much (initially got feedback in the opposite way so I tried to remove things and add them gradually during gameplay. I didn't find the right balance just yet).Performance issues ...in progress, already in my mind for a while.

Regarding the way of interacting with things, what do you think could be a better alternative ? (also E& Space are supported and there's also a settings menu where keys can be remapped. for me right click felt the most natural).

Regarding your game, I just checked the description and it made me really curious. Definitely checking it a bit later this week

I think picking things up would work better with the left mouse button, since you do that quite a lot in the game, and left-clicking feels much more intuitive. Of course, it depends on what other mechanics the game has, but I think LMB would be a perfect fit here.

i can make it the default until getting any other feedback, sure. meanwhile, there's this one in settings which allows exactly that:

When you’ve gone blind to your own builder: tip — ask one stranger only “what did you try in the first 90 seconds?” Lost first minutes beat night-balance notes. Soften night 1 only after that sentence is clear.

Buildings that thaw the frozen land around them is a lovely idea. You said you've played it too often to see it fresh and you want to know the exact moment someone wanted to close it. Written feedback usually misses that moment, a recording doesn't. I run First Impressions: a player I've met plays the demo cold, records the screen and their voice, and answers your three questions, and I review it before you get it. First one is free if you want it: firstimpressions.quest/make
