This was really fun! I had trouble figuring out from which direction I was getting hit, and I feel like a ship would notify me were fire was coming from. Like a little arrow? But otherwise, it was intuitive and easy to follow!
I started without the tutorial and got lost. The controls are intuitive, but I could do with more strategic guidance than “ALIGN WITH THE SLOT”. Align what? What slot? 1 bit 80s graphics require narration IMO.
I flew to the planet, which aligned circle and dot in my bottom right sensor. This thing needs more explanation.
I only knew it was a planet when I crashed into it, wouldn’t have expected to see through a planet but I get you had an aesthetic in mind. Like crashing, being attacked made no difference to my hull or F.SH and A.SH.
If I had remade elite (I thought about it) I would have wanted mouse input, and more detailed graphics. You have a solid game at the core. One I am no longer familiar with.
Thank you for the review!
Star Citizen and Elite Dangerou Player here. o7.
This game reminds me of good old time of space trucking before Claude Code nuked my graphics card.
Can I have a Polaris Corvette here?
I quite like that you focus on trading gameplay. It keeps the essential flow of space trucking but make the process neat and fit in a game-jam session
The 240p scanline effect does not appear on my screen.
A detailed user menu or a tutorial is essential, since space sims are very complex to get the fundamentals learned.Oh I found the tutorial. Never mind.Still It will be helpful to add something to make the player stick to the game beyond the Nova ranking.
It is amazing to see how one can squeeze so much concepts in a game jam game. I think the art is to pick the abstract and the list of features which one feels important to their imaginary of the game genre.
Thank you for this great review!
