Really interesting idea! I liked setting up the player's stats and then watching the match play out on its own to see how they'd do. One small thing: the first time I opened the game, I couldn't type my name, but after reloading the page it worked fine. It might be a focus issue with the itch.io embed. Nice work!

I've been following this game since Discord, and the UI improvements are very noticeable. I have to say, achieving this level of complexity within a game jam is truly impressive. It would be even better if the performance could be further improved in the future, and some background music could be added.
Always had a soft spot for career simulation games. Great work!
Loved this. The "your story" questions (I learned in a public park with no coaching and picked up a racket myself) pointing me towards Big Server was a great touch, and the stat sheet made the trade-off clear right away: Serve 68, Movement 44. In my first junior event in Shenzhen I went Aggressive with Coach Pete's plan (make them run, serve down the T, first strike) against the favourite Pietro Serra, and won 6-2 7-6. The match report is superb: momentum graph, "too much firepower: 10 more winners", and the breakdown that my choices were worth about +2.5 points, with the game plan doing most of the work. It really makes you feel like the coach in the box.
Great concept. I used to play these games but for soccer. I had a lot of fun playing
good stuff! I was initially put off a bit by the description of the itch page but the gameplay is tuned pretty nicely to the requirements of the jam
The overhead match view is my favorite part. Watching the points play out was cool. Building my player had a Madden create-a-player feel, which I liked, but there should be a quick-roll option for the character. The opening menus are a bit plain next to the match screen, and I’d love to see more refined art and some music behind it all. I'd also like to sim a whole season to play out a whole year and get through a career faster. This game will be pretty dope when the art and music get finished, I think.
If sports sims are your thing, you should check out a thing I did a while ago outside this jam on my page called "Chalk." It's similar to what you are doing here, but for football, and only for a single game. I'd love for you to play it and get development comments from you on it, since it's not in this jam, and I've kinda stalled on development of it. https://mdawg74.itch.io/chalk
I liked it for what it was given it was within the Simulation theme. The only thing I would change about it is to add background music even if subtle and more sound effects.
The only sounds that happened when clicking on a button or when the ball was bouncing at least that were audible to me at maximum volume on my laptop.
So in brief for future builds in my recommendation and opinion if you plan to continue this:
- Add hover noises to buttons not just clicking sound effects
- Add background music for the menu areas and the tennis match
- maybe even some running/dashing noises, grunting noises from the ref when the ball goes out or scores, and cheering from the spectators when its getting exciting with lots of back and forths to make it more lively.
Presentation is great! Lots of things going on which I'm sure would make a tennis fan happy. I don't really know anything about tennis so it was all a bit too much info for me.
I thought the intro questions would be annoying when I saw how many there were, but it was fun to create a backstory! (Would be nice to see this have a bigger effect during matches) Character customizer is a nice touch. Wasn't sure if I should "Continue" or "Enter tournament" from first screen, bit of information overload. Watching the match was kinda cool. Having the choices inbetween rounds was nice, although I don't see why you would choose anything other than the highest chance one. I left after the first match because I felt like I had seen everything (might need more features or choices teased, or maybe something to decide upon between matches).
Nice work!
