How does your game interpret and use the Theme / Halloween?
The monster in our game roams different neighborhoods and attacks people only at night. It steal their head and skin so they can impersonate the victium during the day to avoid suspicion. As such, the daytime phase consists of exploration and info gathering while the night phase is when players use that information to decide who to open the door for.

Game Engine?

Godot

Graphics & Audio: What did you create or use?

Homemade Graphics/Art (e.g. models and/or textures)
Homemade Audio (e.g. music and/or sound effects)

Have you participated in a game jam before this one?

Yes

Roughly how much time did you spend developing? (in hours)
35ish? That's a super rough estimate. There's 4 of us and no one kept track of time. Sometimes it was brainstorming and planning. We also had a lot more git problems than the average team which took MANY hours to solve.

Anything else you'd like to share about your game or development process?
The game:
This is a story-based game about handing out candy with 3 endings based on who you open your doors to.

Developement:
This is the first time most of us worked in a team. Two programmers ended up resulting in a LOT of git conflicts and bugs. Many of the team members are short on time so we thought doing a mostly story game wouldn't take too long but boy were we wrong. I guess it's part of the game jam overscoping curse. We didn't get to focus on the story nearly as much as we'd like. Some parts are half-baked and my laptop in particular wouldn't render some things correctly while another computer ran it just fine. A bad git push deleted a large section of our project and it was such a mess to recover (like 4 hours down the drain?). We're definitely better with git and github now after all that fiasco.

Claude AI was used for git, modifying a plugin, and debugging. The art, sound, writing, and rest of code was human made.

Hey i played through once and i think i got the good ending? I mean i guessed correctly who not to open for.. Anyway, well done on this, i think it had the foundations for a good mystery game, and as you mentioned, with more refined dialogue and art, it will definitely feel more polished and interesting. The characters seemed good and it wasnt really obvious who the killer is. I was a bit lucky i guess :D The trick or treat section was a nice touch and i think with more dialogue refinement it will feel much better. It could have some more interactions to gauge who the killer is.

Overall great effort, i understand it is very difficult to coordinate with 4 people in a short time, but i hope the learning stays with you!

I like the story base idea of the game mixed with the playable overworld. Mobile controls would be great to add and maybe a summary/shorter readings.

Developer

I never thought of mobile support. Maybe one day I'll submit a game for mobile. Can you explain what you mean by summary and shorter readings?
