The rescue-team perspective was the part of this that interested me most. The Backrooms setting sits outside my usual interests, so I had a harder time getting fully absorbed, but I liked the idea of searching for the people still stuck in there and trying to bring them back.

It gives the exploration a purpose I could connect with.

The game looks great. The lighting, textures, and overall presentation capture the Backrooms look really well from what I’m familiar with. The body-camera treatment fits the rescue role, and the audio supported the atmosphere well throughout what I played.

I especially liked the movement. The regular walking pace felt comfortable, and seeing your hands come up into a running pose was a nice detail. It gave the movement a sense of physical presence, and moving through the environment felt good.

The writing on the walls was another touch I appreciated.

Putting hints, directions, and instructions into the environment suits the setting and gives you something to notice as you explore. I also thought the way you represented the people waiting to be rescued was an interesting visual choice.

For me, the rescue role is the part I’d be most interested in seeing developed further. The question of who is still missing, and having a reason to go looking for them, was what drew me into the premise.
