Design Statement
For 'Novalee From Tomorrow', I wanted to create a short, dreamy experience about curiosity, wonder, and the mysterious passage of time.
I interpreted the theme track as something beautiful, melancholic, and slightly mysterious. Rather than using it throughout the game, I chose to save it for the ending, where it accompanies a reflective poem about the universe, fleeting moments, and the uncertainty of what comes next.
My key design choice was simplicity. Players connect stars to create five constellations while listening to Novalee's thoughts and questions. Through gentle visuals, voice acting, and a peaceful atmosphere, I wanted to capture the feeling of being small in an impossibly vast universe.
Most importantly, I deliberately left the ending open to interpretation. Novalee sets out to find tomorrow, but whether she ever reaches it remains uncertain. Her final question, “Did tomorrow just come? Or am I stuck in yesterday?”, invites players to consider what tomorrow really means.
I wanted the experience to feel like a tiny, mysterious bedtime story that stays with you after it's over.

A very strange project. Surprisingly, the story is not bad, and the graphics are excellent—but the gameplay... The game is extremely short; it basically just amounts to moving the mouse a few times. It’s the kind of game that’s pleasant to look at, but not to play.
Thank you for your input! I do agree it’s rather short and doesn’t have much gameplay at all… but I guess what drove me to make and post it is the peculiar short story I came up with. I used to write stories a lot when I was younger and this story is based on something I wrote way back in the day. :)
Perhaps next time I’ll create another visual novel with more engaging gameplay!
