Design Statement
//
When I first listened to the theme track, its music-box melody reminded me of childhood memories. It felt warm and nostalgic, but also a little distant and strange. I wanted to capture that feeling in a game.

I chose to create a surreal puzzle adventure where players explore unfamiliar spaces that somehow feel familiar. Rather than telling the story through dialogue, I used environments, objects, and simple interactions to convey the experience of recalling fragmented memories.

I intentionally combined unsettling imagery with the gentle melody to create a contrast between comfort and unease. I also kept the puzzles relatively simple, allowing players to focus more on the atmosphere and the experience itself.

Through ROSEMARY, I wanted to express how precious memories can be, even as time passes and things change.

Very smooth functionality, and it looks great. One visual note: the walking animation could use some refining; the upper body has a convincing left-step-right-step loop, but the lower body does not. The outdoor walking scene goes on without change *just* long enough for me to wonder if I'm supposed to be controlling the character, but then I realized that her walk is timed so that she reaches the house at the end of the musical cue. I'd consider having more variety in the background next time to avoid this player misconception.

The content feels quite personal, in am ineffable sort of way which makes it difficult for me to comment on constructively. As for the gameplay, this game uses what the point-and-click community calls 'moon logic'—puzzles whose solutions cannot be arrived at through reason or deduction, but only by guess-and-check player action. Nevertheless, it didn't take long for me to work through the possible options, and I never hit any snags which felt irritating.

Congrats on finishing your game! It looks and plays quite well, and you should be proud of yourself!

Great entry! You are very efficient in communicating emotions and a sense of both melancholy and unease with simple mechanics and visuals. I really enjoyed the puzzles, they made me scratch my head a bit without making it too difficult where I want to give up.

I also thought there is some similarity in how we interpreted the melody in terms of fragmented memories which made me warm up to this game right away :)

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! I'm really glad that the atmosphere and puzzles came across as I intended. It's also lovely to hear that we interpreted the music in a similar way. Thank you for playing! ☺️

Interesting idea, I did not understand much of what I was doing but the ambient was eerie!
