Design Statement
The theme track made me think about falling into sync with someone, so I made a game where you talk to fireflies in rhythm. A firefly blinks a short pattern on the beat, you blink it back on the next bar. The idea came from the synchronous fireflies in the Great Smoky Mountains, where thousands of them end up flashing together.

The music works as the progress bar. The song starts with kick and bass, and every couple of fireflies you gather it moves into a fuller part of the track. The sky and the fog change at the same moments, so you can hear/see how far you have come without UI on screen.

I kept text to a minimum and let color explain things: blue means watch, gold means it is your turn to repeat the beat. There is no way to lose. If you miss, the firefly repeats again.

Jam rules don’t allow remixing the recording, so the game uses a synthwave cover of the jam theme music, and the visuals moved toward neon to match it.

Game Instructions (launch steps, controls, and gameplay overview)
Download Win.zip, unzip it and run the .exe (Windows). Headphones or speakers needed for full effect. You can also play in web browser.

Controls: mouse, WASD or arrow keys to move. Click or Space to blink to rhythm.

A firefly blinks a rhythm at you. Blink the same rhythm back on the next bar and it starts to follow you. Gather fireflies to build up the music, then go to the old tree at the north end of the field to finish.

The colors fit perfectly. The spinning sunflowers bring so much life to the whole game!

I really liked it. The aesthetic creates a great atmosphere, and the mechanics complement this, making the experience simple and enjoyable, with the music taking center stage.

I found the sequences that disappear a bit challenging.
