Hello, I was reviewing the rules of your game jam and something that stuck out was rule #1.
You see, I live in the United States, where the only restriction to freedom of speech is that you can't directly incite violence towards anyone. As such, "Hate speech" is undefined and I have a hard time working around it, because anyone can consider any offensive utterance to be hateful.
Can you please provide us with some more concrete guidelines?

edit: I see someone else has been thwarted by this ill-defined concept.

Another question, sorry: you say in the description of the Jam

"You can use anything assets wise but don't upload the whole asset store. "

but then later in the rules section you state:

  • No using stuff that other people made (stuff like emojis are still allowed)

I cant wrap my head around that one. Thank you! (BTW, this is NOT meant to be an attack on the host. I am seriously looking for clarity.)

just don't use any "offensive utterance" in your game, I guess

It just seems so vague. What one person considers normal could make another person shriek in terror.  Culturally offensive? Personally? Morally? Verbally?

I honestly can't imagine what kind of game would someone be planning to make in a jam like this that would raise such questions. I would just don't try to offend anyone, by common sense, and if someone says to me that what I did was offensive, I would listen, discuss and if it is the case, delete or change it. If you're in doubt maybe you can share with us what you are your ideas and we can think together if that would make another person "shriek in terror".

I believe you have a fair and valid point about "in a jam like this", cause it is just a simple, have-fun-making-things, but suppose I include iconography that I find appealing, but someone else feels that it's evil. At what level am I obligated to alter my art to accomodate one's sensibilites? Maybe the art I've created isn't for the person who is offended by it. I am not forcing them to engage with my artistic expressions, no matter how colorful. "Offensive" is entirely dependent upon the viewer. But if all games are political, to some degree, they are all philosophical as well.

Perhaps this is the 'wrong' forum for discussing these specific ideas, but I can't help but ask them when presented with the opportunity, because at the very least, maybe someone will engage in dialogue and be opened to a new perspective whilst helping me to understand theirs.

Ideally. Lol. I live in fantasy land... I like you, pedroMz. We are conversing. :D If you know of a better section to discuss these things, I would LOVE to be included.

I know the jam has ended (so sorry for being late, i didn't see your question), but yea, basically what the first rule means is "dont be rude or offensive of anything"

and the 2nd rule absoluely sucks, so im getting rid of it in low eff 10, it said that in the desc, because I would just copy the desc everytime i made the next low eff jam, and i had added the rule, not knowing it said that, so yea, sorry for being late, but hope this helps in low eff 10

Better late than never, lol, and here I come almost 2 weeks later...
Thanks for the clarification! I am looking forward to LE10
