So… I published my game on itch.io few years ago. And I think I achieved quite good - not great, but good - results with it. 73k browser plays at this moment :)

Since then, I’ve been working hard - not just on improving the game itself, but also on promoting it. After all, what does the quality of a game matter if no one even looks at it? I am active across a wide range of social media platforms and traditional forums. I know where it is permissible and worthwhile to promote games. I collaborate with YouTubers and cosplayers, and I know various cunning (but legitimate!) tricks to boost online content visibility.

And I’m ready to share my experience with you—well, at least regarding the games that catch my interest :) These are primarily CRPGs, TTRPGs, strategy games, and titles with compelling storylines or worlds (I have a preference for dark fantasy and cosmic horror settings). Oh, and of course, games from Poland! Well, I’m a patriot :) But You can try with basically any game - e.g. I would probably not play cute cozy game for kids myself, but perhaps my soft heart will lead me to support it :) If a game really grabs me, I might even promote it on my own social media channels.

You might ask: why not simply publish a list of places where indie games can be promoted? Well, unfortunately, I’ve had bad experiences with that. I once posted on Reddit about a forum that had provided me with a good audience; people immediately rushed to post there, and the administrators - upset by the flood of spam - not only banned me but also prohibited self-promotion going forward. That is why, to avoid overdoing it, I prefer to consider each case individually.

This brochure contains inspiration drawn from the beliefs of peoples who actually inhabit the Earth now or in the past, or from facts taken straight from history or science. Each case includes the suggestion, how given beliefs or facts can be interpreted in the spirit of cosmic horror, emphasizing their appropriate elements or bending them slightly. Sometimes, the descriptions are quite brief - a detailed discussion of each topic would take a lot of space and time. These are rather teasers intended to show why a specific thing may be interesting for fans of eldritch vibes and possibly encourage them to take a closer look at the topic.

The article is intended primarily for Game Masters who play games in systems inspired by Lovecraft’s works, such as Call of Cthulhu, Trail of Cthulhu or Delta Green. However, I hope that other fans of cosmic horror will also find something for themselves here. The facts presented here may also be interesting for people who are not familiar with the work of The Loner of Providence, but some of the references may be unclear to them.
