Thanks!
The walls have eyes. Yours.
Burglars are sneaking into your house, and you can’t move or fight. But you can watch. Click a wall to open an eye. Anything caught in its gaze freezes, panics, and runs for the door, dropping whatever it stole.
▶ Play in your browser (no download): https://avrdevstudio.itch.io/watchful
How to play
- Click a wall segment to open an eye (3 at a time).
- Eyes track burglars and project a vision cone. Catch a burglar in the cone to spook him.
- Eyes need a short rest after closing, so spend them wisely.
- Protect your valuables through 7 waves. Lose them all and the house is empty.
Controls: Mouse / touch. M to mute.
🎃 DOOR DEFENSE
Don’t invite them in.
It’s Halloween night and someone is knocking.
Some of them are trick-or-treaters. Some of them aren’t.
Monsters can’t enter your home unless they’re invited, and handing over candy counts as an invitation. You get one look through the peephole to decide who gets a treat and who gets the door slammed in their face.

INSPIRATION
Door Defense is heavily inspired by Papers, Please by Lucas Pope. I loved how it turns a simple loop into constant tension, because every approval or denial has a cost and the clues are right in front of you if you look closely. I wanted that feeling, but at a front door on Halloween night, with a peephole instead of a border booth.
The core loop is the same:
- Inspect each visitor through the peephole
- Check them against the rules of the night
- Decide: give candy or slam the door
- Live with it when you get one wrong
HOW IT PLAYS
- Lean in to the peephole and study each visitor
- Spot the tells that give monsters away:
- No shadow: flip the porch light ON to check
- Glowing eyes: flip it OFF to check
- No cold-night breath
- The wrong number of fingers
- Floating just above the floor
- A bad knock: too slow, too fast, or just wrong
- A strange bucket: full of things that aren’t candy
- Each round shows “Tonight’s Signs” so you know which tells to watch for, and you can check the Field Guide anytime
- Survive three hours (8 PM, 10 PM, Midnight) as the signs get trickier and the fog gets thicker
- 3 monsters let in = game over. 3 real kids turned away = your house gets egged into oblivion.
CONTROLS
- Mouse: look around
- Space / Right Mouse (hold): lean in to the peephole
- F: toggle the porch light
- 1: give candy
- 2: slam door
- Tab: Field Guide
Best with headphones and the lights off.
