Wow, quite an interesting space simulation game! It reminded me the like of the X series where you have to set up your own fleet and conduct business. I like the bidding mechanics as well, it added depth to the economy, quite impressive! A tutorial would be nice, since the game is a bit compelx to starts with.

About the Making of the Game

Hey guys, I am a long time hobby game developer and my girlfriend is curious why I always disappear for a weekend end of Janurary (Global Game Jam). Therefore, I decide maybe this is a good game jam to share with her the joy of making your own game!

She has no tech backgrond, has never designed a game before, barely play them, and not particularly good at music or art.  So I decided to teach her the AI Game Dev approach, where we started by brainstorming the game concept with Gemini, then take it to Opencode to vibe code the game, used Nanobanana and Suno to create some art and music. To my surprise, she love doing this. We started on the weekend and work right up till the deadline adding last minute improvements!

Initialially, I was hesistant about the heavy use of AI, since it tends to make people lazy and hurt their critical thinking ability, from my observation as a teacher. But this is not the case. She keep come up with new ideas and rapidly working with the AI to implement them and refine the game. So in the end, it make her think a lot more.  It empowered my girlfriend  to channel her creativity into a project that she love! I never seen her work so hard on something before, usually, she always say she is tired and give up very quickly.

She is struggling with self-confidence issues. Ever since graduating from college, the daily grind at work is slowly killing her inside, as work is an never ending cycle of repeated busy work. I think this game jam is definitely a highlight for her. She was passionately sharing her game jam expereince with her psychologist, and the psychologist even said that it seems that this project reignite her fire inside. She is also happily sharing the experience with co-workers and friends.

I am so proud of her~ 😊

The Game: Vine Climber

The game is inspired by an old story called Jack and the Beanstalk. The objective is simple, climb or swing your way to the top. You will pass by several biome and meet various creatures. You can collect "dews" to buy upgrade in the shop for the extra boost~

Right now the game is optimized for PC, it also work on mobile, but a bit hard to play. We need to tune that somehow, the touch control is a bit sensitive.

Please rate and feedback are appreciates!

Say I prototyped a party game that live off a server (like people scan QR code to enter a room code to join a session from their phone), how would I go about submitting that? I guess itch wouldn't allow me to like redirect to another website? I should have thought about before starting lol

I they enjoy the experience as well! Most STEM edu classes focus only on "copy coding", but rarely let students unleash their creative side. So project let them take a spin on the "boring" school history class and make it fun~ 😊

Here's mine that I made with my STEM class students, it's their first game jam! It's a story based game in Chinese though xS

Wow, quite a cool fast-paced 3rd person-shooter game! The graphics look nice using Unreal! I miss the normal jump, crawl, run, zoom in action though lol.
