Used this and Space Contract in this gamejam! https://catbitestudios.itch.io/the-call

Looking forward to using them in another :)

Ahhhh glad to hear you enjoyed playing it! I spent the first day-and-a-half workshopping ideas, finally settled on this one, then getting a very firm concept working in my head before starting. For me that is key.

I also knew from the start this game would be very data driven, so I used a csv text database to store all the modules data. With that in place, I could add/remove modules just from the text file, change values etc and it would all update the next time the game started. Finally, I find it very difficult to make a game without art assets, so I started the jam creating the art necessary for the game, before progressing to the main gameplay systems. I also have some familiarity with godot, have used it before, and this jam learnt alot more!

I definitely could have used more time to compose some bgm - I started on it, figured out that the time could be better used balancing out the modules and pacing of the game, so the audio aspect is severely lacking. Sadly, still not enough time to do the balancing and the game can go sideways if incorrect modules are bought*.

*Giving the player every single module without progression gating is an experiment I wanted to try. Like, why not give everything available in the game at the start? Based on the comments so far, I've come to think that gating progression so players can learn how the game works is likely better.

Sorry, rambled too long haha!

Ack game loads but mouse/keyboard doesn't seem to do anything. Am on firefox.

Ahh thanks for playing! Yeah I defo put in too many things for a game I envisioned should be winnable in around 10-15mins. Unfortunately just not enough time to balance everything so upgrades feel impactful, and the lack of music/sfx shows. Those 10 days (11 if you count the submission day lol) were very long ones for sure!

Thank you! I definitely overdid the building side of things and didn't have enough time to properly balance it out. Glad you found old earth!

Ahhh glad to hear you had fun!

The frantic aspect wasn't planned, it appeared when I was doing all the calculations and I was like... hey! This would be a very good way to push the player forward! Sadly not enough time to balance everything out properly. Defo would like to get a more fleshed out game one day!

Thank you!
Yeah I rushed the tutorial on the last day, wish I'd more time! For everything tbh XD

Thank you :3
It does have too many moving parts for a 10-15min game, didn't have enough time to balance everything >.> Shoulda gone with something simpler.  Next time :3

yee I think I overcooked the "base building", I was aiming for a game that lasts 10-15mins tops and that building part feels too overly complicated compared to the travel/search part.

Hydroponics FTW :3

Ahhh thanks for the feedback! Yee the crew quarters were balanced pretty badly, v1.07 should address that issue (Much less water usage, and lesser cost to build, and also hold less crew - so the jump in food requirements don't go through the roof). TBH it's not balanced well atm, I over complicated the build section and didn't have time to sort everything out.

Very interesting strategy to use the jump boosts to get around XD Sounds like that module is broken XD

RE: the stats, I should add those. Defo will keep in mind if I make something similar. Many thanks!

Another spot on interpretation of the theme! Love that side eye XD

Aaaaaa short and sweet but damn that was an awesomely fun run! Love the music and chatter, that pixel art nokia is :3 The amount of detail inside the levels is jaw dropping. Movement is _slightly_ on the twitchy side and I had to switch to my gaming paw to make some jumps. 5 all! Love the doggo!

Love the level design and concept!

I think you've got the best intepretation of the theme so far! Love the mechanics, and the bgm makes things hectic!

A critique: As the game is mostly played by keyboard, having to switch to the mouse to select powerups breaks my flow.

That mouse has the boobies! XD

Interesting take on the lidar style games! Really like how the green walls absorb the bounces. I have a critique: Would be nice to have some sort of progress bar to indicate when I can next release the next lidar burst.

Would like to add, might help to have a comma between items that can be taken, took a few seconds to figure out Device and Radio were separate items, not a single one!

What a mood! Art style and music are *chefs kiss*

Pretty darned good for your first game jam! Keep at it!

Loved the time-based power ups, can kind of become overpowered if you don't make mistakes, but it doesn't last, that's something I need to remember!

Love the groove of this game! Lovely art style and the music and voiceover is very good!

Amazing! Thank you for this :)

Thank you so much for the update! I hope the donation was ok!

Oh wow. The story is quite the stab to the heart. What happened to the crew? Why are they the last one left? Who is the protagonist? So many questions.

Woo! Awesome!

Heyo! I'm loving Ignotum alot, I'm wondering if you take commissions? Would love to have bold versions of this font!

Thanks for playing! The rng is definitely far too harsh. Wish I had time to implement something that was fairer. One day!

Ah cheers for the follow! I don't think I'll be developing this particular game any further, but I have games in the pipeline that have similar concepts!

We did what we could :3

Yee that's right! Just a bump at start! The rng can be pretty hard though. Balancing the difficulty is something I still have not figured out XD

Gah I missed that XD

Poke away!

Just put ears on your main character and HEY! CAT BOI!

Probably just need more testers to see if that choice would work better in general - For me, that really jumped out - I play inverted Y for fps games and have been told normal people don't XD

That shark boss is a bullet sponge lol.

Very challenging runner! Especially since walls instakill. Maybe some HP would help with a hit anim?

Love the art!

Tough but enjoyable! ftl-kinda ish :3 Have to try it again after I go through the whole list :3

Wow lovely rhythm game! I found the way the controls are taught really good, and it's also pretty challenging when you need to both do the combo, as well as dodge other stuff at the same time. Art is very cool too!

Ahhh love the art!
