The public domain and a good colour scheme really go far

The green is literally cathode green! I figured I could get away with a lot if I just picked a nice unified colour scheme.

I did! It really helped get me from all my initial ideas to actual locations.

Thanks. I would definitely like to revisit this and flesh it out after the jam.

There is so much adventure crammed into this bad boy. I really like the magic items.

Really love the layout and how well it interacts with Hodag’s art.

Incredible presentation. Feels like you’ve cracked open an old book full of notes.

I love the idea that this is a classic module that has been modified. Super unique in every aspect.

Makes me want to play more card games. In this jam, it’s utterly unique and highly playable. Amazing work.

The chaos that all this character sheet switching would cause at the table is awesome. A great adventure to throw at a table that has gotten to comfortable.

Thanks! I got the art from a public domain collection here on itch. /c/7741613/public-domain-illustrations-packs

You saying that has just made me realise how simple it would have been to put my existing map over some art 😅. It’s going in the post jam update

I would definitely like to revisit the location descriptions, I probably could have squeezed a little more in. My focus was more on practising layout than writing. I also tried to use Taipan as an opportunity to introduce light radiation mechanics but it would really rely on a discerning GM.

The dashed lines according to the Cairn wardens guide are hidden paths. I just used them to differentiate without bringing in extra colours 😅. More material for a revisit.

Thank you. I coloured in some art from some public domain art packs I found on itch. Mark is a great curator of public domain art /c/7741613/public-domain-illustrations-packs

Definitely not an excuse for me to squeeze my giant robot obsession into Cairn.

I did consider it, and would probably have done something with it if I had more time. I really crammed a lot of the work in at the end 😅.

Awesome! I’m glad the giant atomic robot is sounding like everyone’s favourite part.

This is such a great premise that I kind of want a whole RPG about being a hireling

The item descriptions are fantastic. Every game with guns needs descriptions like that

Love how the cover really illustrates the inciting incident so vividly. Also, very thoughtful to encourage tying the adventure to an existing town in your campaign. Makes it very usable.

Thank you so much. Nice to hear it wasn’t too nutty.

Thanks! Glad to hear it had an impact.

Excited to know what you think!

I really like that your version of the prime directive is a moral principles not a law, letting players be from the bastard version of star fleet. Overall fantastic stuff.

You can still email it in and explain what happened

Facebook post from Stern asking people for their dream pinball machine Stern just posted this. Surely they are messing with us.

Low effort bait post

Damn. The VR headset predates the Dreamcast by a few years, maybe they share some hardware or even this pinball game.

No luck. Went to the café and didn’t see it so I asked the owner about it. He said, “I think we had one a few years back of course that was…”, and then he sort of trailed off and looked a million miles away.

Wasn’t a total loss because I found the company he gets the machines from, so I’ll see if I get an email back. Plus the coffee was good.

Oh shit I think I’ve seen this machine! There’s a cafe near me that has pinball machines, and I swear I’ve seen it there. I’ll pop by on my way to work tomorrow and get a pic.

Love the look of this. As a parent of a toddler myself I also love the idea of the horror of a play center. Good work 😀

The evolution of your art style in the new preparation chapters is phenomenal. Squeezed a bunch of extra charm out of your characters. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Any plans on making A4 versions of these templates?

Thanks. I could have benefited from doing the whole thing a bit smaller to add polish. Maybe I’ll come back to this to give it the spit and shine it needs.

I am glad you think so. That is how I plan these things out because I suck at art. I was going to try drafting something up for this jam but I was far too ambitious with the size of my submission.

Thank you. I always thought the most interesting part of Shadowdark was the real-time stuff so I decided to try it with a “non-renewable resource”

Thank you! I’m no good at art or cartography so I just tried to cram as much interesting stuff as I could in there.

Really cool how the dungeon uses a single encounter to pursue you. Neat idea.

As I have started I wrote my inspirations as dot points, will that be acceptable for the inspiration requirement? I also have a written paragraph but that is more about a specific feeling I wanted to evoke.

Would be cool if this could be ported to be an XMPP client
