I’m going to use this in my Dolmenwood campaign, which definitely majors on whimsy rather than horror. I like that it can be dropped anywhere.

My players supposedly were just passing by on their way to Castle Brackenwold, but couldn’t resist finding out what was making the weird footprints. They loved the communist pawns, and meeting Chamberlain Fulmer has got them wondering whether the Duke’s relationship with the Church is entirely aboveboard. As if Dolmenwood doesn’t already have enough factions, I might have to add a power-crazed chess piece to the mix.
