I released our demo a few days ago and somehow forgot I could post about it here. Sorry. Hi.

Back of Beyond — the demo runs in your browser:

https://polypolygames.itch.io/back-of-beyond

You place animal villagers and facilities on a 7x5 grid, and neighbours feed each other. Faith adds up, Devotion multiplies it, and at the end of every night, the whole grid fires at once into one number: Eldritch Power.

The eldritch god at your door has a number too. Clear it, and it goes back through its rift.

The demo covers five rings of the map and runs 30–60 minutes. Mouse only, desktop Chrome or Firefox. English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

We're still tuning this one. Bugs, controls that felt wrong, sections that dragged, moments you actually enjoyed — all of it helps. Leave a comment to us, or come tell us about it on Discord:

Thanks for playing.

— Victor

Thanks for the report, I just fix it, please give it another try!

Thanks for playing! You're right that the game flow needs more polish - we'll be working on it before launch. Really useful feedback, and I'm glad the vibe is landing!

Thanks for playing! I'll flag the speed-up option with the team, and pass your notes on the randomness to our designer.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it, and glad they landed.

Thank you for making this video! Also thanks for the feedback.

The latest build few hours ago seems glitchy lol

You know there are some quirks of the HTML5 platform of GameMaker, you might want to clean & rebuild another html5 build.

Although it looks pretty neat tho, I will have no idea how to do this in my games on purpose.

Edit: It's been fixed!

Thanks again!:D

I've been thinking about the level design, I guess some parts are not clear enough, I attached a full playthrough video in this post, hope this could be a little helpful for people having trouble of beating this game jam.

I love this game! It's pretty solid and addictive, I'm really enjoying it.
Well done :D
