Easily my favorite game of the year. Studio Aurum took the best of Shin Megami Tensei, bits of emotion and horror from Mother 3, and a whole ton of unique monster designs, and put it in the oven to slow-bake for a couple hours. The spriting is colorful and crisp, the music is fantastic (check out the OST!) and the breeding-fusion system lets you really do whatever you want with crafting cool new critters. Main story playtime is 12~16 hours if you explore everything, but there's a lot else to do, like NG+, collecting all the monsters and exploring alternate story routes. Absolutely worth it if you're an RPG buff or want to try a new monster tamer game!

This game is the second in the series, but story- and setting-wise it's very standalone with lore references to the first game. You can 100% play it without having played Monster Crown: Red King.

Exquisite work, the music elevates this game so much. Take my money.
