Actually very interesting. One of our artists is a big pizza tower fan : )
Glad you enjoyed it and what a coincidence! : D
Thanks for actually taking the time to play through it!
I was actually a tad worried about collisions and stuff, we missed a lot of play testing and I'm sure we could've made that a lot smoother given more time, but oh well : D
Btw, do we know you? Just wondering since you're not part of the jam and made the account very recently ^^
Played this for way too long haha. It is enjoyable and I like the various types of things you can place. Also the enemies look cute as heck, how they wobble around : )
The only complaints I have are, that first, the big armored skeletons seem to have *way* too much health late game.I had like 7 towers, some lightning towers, flowers for slow down and not a *single* one of the big skeletons died.
Secondly, I am like 99% sure that the game does not behave the same way when sped up. Sped up I always die in the first wave most of the time. Slowed down I make it to wave 8 at least usually : P
Cute doggo. I actually liked this quite a bit, the jump itself feels nice and the level design is also interesting enough. Only thing I would *definitely* change is that holding jump makes you auto jump the entire time. It can be very disorienting when jumping onto a platform and accidentally immediately jumping again : D
Neat concept, I beat the entire thing and enjoyed it. : D
The movement is a tad too slippery for me though and I did not dig that your momentum just dies midjump, I think adding some coyote frames would also help a bit.
You should also try adding a little thumbnail, just about anything! It will stick out more that way : )
I genuinely like this.
The jumping is floatly and wonky as heck, so if you further work on this, the physics clearly need a vamp up : D
What I really find amazing though is the idea of using "saved time" as a currency to buy new upgrades. That's really cool, and me being a person that likes speedrunning games, this is an absolutely solid idea.
If you have a lot more levels, more precise controls this is absolutely fantastic.
One thing that also needs more work is making clear how "gaining" said time currency works. It seemed rather sporadic how much time to buy things I would get, because it did not seem to be the seconds I had left when finishing a level?
Also you need to clearly nerf the numbers, because I couldn't buy a single upgrade throughout a normal playthrough : p
Wow, this is definitely my favourite jam game so far. Right up my alley : D
At first I thought "Huh, neat little concept, but I guess this will be quite short", and then I saw you introducing the loops which have been heaps of fun. I only made it to loop 3 so far, but I'll try again later to beat all of em : D
I also like that dying in a loop brings you back to the beginning of the loop, and not to the beginning of the entire game.
What I find particularly interesting, and something you really could base a game on is, how the loops introduce certain numbers being more dangerous. Take the 1 being way larger for example. It gives the player more challengers, but when it is time to actually collect the one, it works the opposite way this time, the one being big works in the players favor. I genuinely find that unique.
Stuff I think you could add is a little loop counter.
Perhaps also some sort of balance, because sometimes it can be quite challenging to get the required number, other times it is literally the first number that falls and no challenge at all.
One bug I came across is, that it seemed to load the collision of another map, while displaying the correct map though. So I was hovering in air and stuff as if there was ground.
Overall still very neat game, as I said, my favourite so far : D
I was genuinely confused at first on what you had to do, but a quick look at the controls at the game page enlightened me. Gamepad probably is best way to play as you said. Overall I get some Sekiro vibes from this. Fast paced attack input where in split seconds you have to come up with good attack combos. Could be build into a really neat concept : D
Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah, everything in the game was created by us, my girlfriend drew the backgrounds and title screen / winning screen, my best friend drew the sprite work and the game over screen and all the "actions".
This game jam was quite a chaos for us, because we had to often work separately and only really had the final day to completely work together, so a lot of play testing went under the carpet, sadly, still glad we at least put something out this time : D
The UI seems to be bugged, I had to click quite a bit below the buttons and thought at first the game just didn't work ... ^^;)
The idea itself is rather neat I think, if you take it a bit further and make it heavily speed based, this could be incredibly interesting, where a hit never means death, but a reason to be even faster.
I liked the presentation and it's nice to play, though I think it lacks a tad in engagement. As far as I understand it, you are supposed to keep an equilibrium and mindfully decide if you harvest or let animals die, but I think adding a bit more of a feedback rather than just numbers would make the game more fun : D
In the end it is about just having fun and releasing what you can make. If you never joined one, there is always a first time.
As for the noobie thing... I mean, how noob are you? Do you have any basic idea of how your engine works, do you know how to export the game to release it on here? Or would you struggle to make an object move and interact with another?
If the most basic basics are missing, I mean, you can still try but I'd rather suggest learning the engine first.
I've seen people make single room games where all you do is jump over a few blocks to reach a goal and while that may not be impressive to the average player, it can be an impressive feat for you personally, you know.
This is one of those games where I feel quite overwhelmed reading the tutorial, and then when the game starts it immediately clicks ^^
It's pretty fun, and while the concept wasn't exactly original to me (I've seen a few jam games from this jam having former "you"'s reenact what you did before), what I liked here is, that your former selfes where actually fairly dodgeable still. They aren't too quick or unreadable to react, and you don't have to memorize everything you did, which is very nice.
I like the music and the sound effects too, though one big nitpick: The sound effects are *way* too loud in comparison to the music. If the music is on a decent volume, the sfx hurt my ears. When the sfx are on a decent volume, I can hardly hear the music.
The art looked nice and gave the game some flair, but I wished it had a bit more narrative because that can quite change a game.
Controlling wise, I wasn't too impressed, it felt a tad boring that all you could do was move and shoot normal shots in 4 directions. Some different shot types, buffs, anything would have made it more interesting imo.
Nonetheless, the game was great and quite addicting, good job : )
Nice little game that reminded me a tad of metroid but more action focused.
A little bit more control over your dash and your midair movement would've been nice, but overall it was fun.
Also huge props for having it actually work with the d-pad of a PS5 controller, you have no idea how many commercial games even don't ; D
I find the idea of starting in the beginning and working your way outwards pretty interesting, it just gives the level a certain feeling that I like : D
As others stated already, the mechanics are not really understandable in the beginning. It took me a little to understand you can wall jump. At first I thought the enemies were the things you are supposed to collect and I did not understand why I was suddenly dying.
Overall, enjoyablity wise, I think this still needs quite a bit to be truly enjoyable for me, but the overall idea is nice imo. : )
Don't worry, you're not the only one : )
One of my partners and me are quite into bullet hell games, and we designed the levels : D
We already adjusted the difficulty post jam, so our other partner can enjoy it too, it was too difficult for her... ^^
But yeah, stages are usually the most difficult thing for me in game jams, because you spend so much time tweaking the mechanics, that the actual levels are usually added on the last day for me : p
Glad you enjoyed it to some extend though!
I like the overall idea, it was enjoyable to me.
I'd suggest to put some actual border though, so you can't leave the screen. It completely disorients and usually results in a death when trying to come back.
I also noticed that the music stops looping at some point (not quite "loop"-y, is it? (I'll see myself out...)).
But yeah, overall decent entry, I enjoyed it and had fun playing it : )
Took a little that the "loop" is the people repeating their behavior at the same moment every day.
But man, this game looks cute, it really reminded me of Worms 3D and such. Gave me quite the nostalgia.
I think the gameplay isn't really fun and I quit it after reaching the portal once, but the asthetics, I sure would love to see again : )
This gives me some genuine creepy mystery vibes for some reason. Given what you wrote here, I assume there is some hidden exit or something?
I managed to destroy two voids in level 0 and have them create blue dust, but I honestly can't tell if that was intended or not ^^
Either way, I liked it so far!
I really liked this game. When I read through the tutorial, it was a bit overwhelming, but you catch onto the controls fast when actually playing, and the managing of different parts of your ship make it quite interesting.
A little nitpick I have is, that I think it'd flow better if you just had to hover over the engine again and that forms the loop, but currently you have to put the end *exactly* on the engine (and sometimes I was a bit too much right to it so my loop didn't form.
Oh and a slight bug, but the title screen theme didn't play for me when I started the game for some reason. After going back from the tutorial, the title screen theme played though (the music is pretty good btw) : )
