Fun combination of interactive narrative and maze navigation. I made it out intact. The hint about the map helped but for some reason most of the maze was still unused. Is it randomized and I just got lucky? Anyway, thanks for the game!

An artsy odd game or visual novel for sure. While being slightly annoyed by the slow movement speed, the awkwardness captured me enough to play or rather walk through the whole game. I certainly am missing a lot of the cultural background to understand 98% of this but it was entertaining nonetheless - even if entertainment is probably not the game’s goal. Or maybe it is, idk.
Interesting art style btw.
Fun little stock market game with some good humor. Hell is a corporate enterprise after all. On my second run, I made it to 4th round but had bad luck with the news. That’s life as a day trader :D Loved the presumably hand-drawn snacks and icons. Very unique. :)
A run is quick which is neat particularly for a game jam game.
Some ideas of for improvement in case you plan to continue refining the game some more:
- I wished there was a way to sell my items (tricks?) to customize the build and experiment some more. Maybe I just missed it though.
- a way to see the item effects on the trade floor and not just in the shop, e.g. a tooltip
- the zombie started its text too early or skipped through it or sth, so i only was able to see the last line of dialogue. Would have been nice to hear more of his humor
Hi @ErinBrume, tiny clarification: My Little Bubble Tea Shop was a soloproject by me using some online assets for parts of the game.
In detail: One of such assets (the background music) was created by Alex McCulloch but not as a collaborator specific to this game. It’s just a CC0 asset I used. I don’t even know Alex nor does he/she know me. I simply try to credit the respective creators of the assets even when I don’t have to. Honor to those who honor deserves. I guess you saw the name in the Acknowledgement and thought he was a direct collaborator on the game.
Thanks for playing @AxalKay!
The submission date is a bit confusing because it’s hosted in an iframe. As of the initial submission I only ever redeployed the webpage behind it without changing the html i gave to itch.io. So itch doesn’t capture the submissions.
I did work on it until Jan 12 as you can see from the github commit history.
I originally planned to make the game more story based but then found that the customization aspect makes for a pretty neat game. And being a programmer I had more fun with implementing that than with content creation ^^; Collaborating with someone more into the content creation should probably be put on the agenda for my next game jam.
Fun fact: Since the glam jam description said something like “it’s all about polish” my original ‘game’ was only the title screen xD
Thanks for playing and for the feedback, plexsoup! I appreciate it. Probably I should have just added the info torch vs lantern to the itch.io page. It’s actually on the github README (which has to be closed-source due to asset licenses :( ) I will remember it next time. In fact, an ingame glossary (like in Hero’s Hour) was planned but didn’t have a high enough priority to make it to the end of the jam. Thanks again for your time!
Today I learned: Being a Grim Reaper is hard ^^; Liked the originality of the idea though as others have pointed out sometimes it was tricky to get the ghosts into the nooks. After level 4 or 5 however my cat was alone and I just needed to run through heaven’s door…until I reached the final “ending”. Not sure whether that was a bug or due to time restraints.
Anyway, thank you very much!
Thanks for playing and actually finishing the game, @codingkook! Glad you liked it. And yes, that was one of my design goals: making the decision sacrifice any of your objectives emotionally hard. If I continue on this project, it would be nice to give each child an individual personality so the urge to protect them gets enhanced.
Thank you for playing and for your feedback, @aFoolsDuty! I can only imagine what went wrong on the placement but I suppose it’s either because there was already a tower (which should then be marked in red on screen), or you didn’t have enough coins.
Probably the latter as I didn’t make it obvious how much each tower costs to not clutter the UI too much. There’s probably an elegant solution to that too though. I just didn’t came up with one :) Again, thank you!
Great game! The artwork at the beginning is utterly fantastic. Core game loop works well, too, with potential for future improvements. Music gives a great dwarf-underground vibe. maybe just a personal preference, but it would be great to have an overarching goal in the game, like a highscore (waves survived), or simply an end screen after x waves. Anyway, Thanks for your game!
