this asks questions i wouldnt have even thought about before i read this. i really enjoy playing games as an excercise in agency, but i only sometimes play them as an expression of creativity. ive spent a lot of time making ephemeral art in the physical world, and that ephemeral part of it is core to why im doing it and what it means. art thats meant to was away in the rain, thats stamped into the ground by people dancing. its strange making art that isnt supposed to be ephemeral, but cant escape its fragility anyway. and thats to say nothing of the fragility of boredom, of the impulse to abandon a minecraft world and move on to another one. what happens to those half finished builds? its funny how much effort it can take to prevent restlessness, yet how much effort it can take to step outside of our comfort zone. there are definitely ways in which digital art can be bigger and more permanent than anything physical. theres no real size constraints in a digital world, and it can all travel with you indefinitely. its all very untethered. i have so many weighty memories of time spent with friends building things and making little worlds, that i can probably never see again. but theyre entire spaces i know inside out. but friendships are like that too i guess, lots of things only really exist in the Doing, and very little in the Being
this is a delightful game!!! really really enjoyed playing it. a cute distillation of FF1, though i really enjoyed the addition of more dialogue responses. i wish i could download this, and i wasnt sure how to save my game or craft any items, but i quite enjoyed dropping an hour and a half into this. i hope to come back to it! the aesthetics and vibes are absolutely there. really cool :3!
i should try finding the project file but it was so fiddly.... i could have made it even cooler if the program wasnt actively battling me. half the time the program would want to apply force to every astroid in the map at once. i think the main thing that was bugging me was i couldnt reference the collided objects velocity so everything has a set bounce speed rather than being realistic...
wicked! i started writing a bare bones thematic reskin of this and renamed stamina to burn, i feel as though it works much better as something negative if youre accumulating it. also i renamed the party to warband inspired by valiant quest, cool to see a mechanic for it. cant wait to check out the new magic!
