As for the items you haven’t unlocked, it might be because they’re unique to a specific character (for now).

I didn't think anyone would figure this game out, so I'm really glad you enjoyed it, and I'm going to play through it again just for that reason. As for how to get into the church, in one of the caves there's an altar where you place Bibles to get the key!
