I try to keep the games as faithful as possible to their original structure, except when I find a bug, which I try to fix. It’s true that this game is slow, but it is perfectly functional.
For now, I’m dedicating my limited time to adapting as many games as possible so that they can be enjoyed on the Amstrad GX4000 or on a video game console with a CPC emulator.
Perhaps later on I’ll try to “take things a step further” with some games that are really worth improving, as I have already done, for example, with Domino, where I added the ability to save games, or with La Escoba, where I noticeably sped up the dealing of the cards.
Thank you very much for the suggestion; it makes perfect sense.
Thanks for your comment. The game runs slowly because of its heavy graphics workload, all programmed entirely in BASIC, which results in the kind of slowdown that was very common in games of the era. For the time being, my mods are mainly focused on fixing programming errors, remapping the controls, and adding cheat options. It's possible that, in the future, I'll revisit games like this one, which are well worth improving and, of course, speeding up.
For example, last night I finished porting a game that originally only worked with BASIC 1.0 (Amstrad CPC 464) so that it now runs under BASIC 1.1 (CPC 6128/GX4000). This involved modifying a considerable amount of the original code, particularly the routines responsible for graphics handling and on-screen movement. The game, called *Death Race* (published in Your Computer), will be released in a few weeks.
puedes jugar en un CPC, usando el dispositivo M4. Hay una versión dsk aquí DSK DESCARGA aunque no tiene las mejoras que he implantado a la versión GX.
FIRE 2: Start the game.
STAGE 1: Use JOY UP and JOY DOWN to dodge the oncoming cars.
STAGE 2: Use the joystick to collect each key. Every time you pick up a key, one of the walls is unlocked, allowing you to rescue a hostage.
The controls are very simple: 100% two-button joystick. No keyboard is required.
This is a feature I added so that if you have infinite lives and get stuck, you can perform a "Call 0" by pressing F1+F2 simultaneously to restart the CPR ROM on the GX4000/Pico GX. While the game can be played on a CPC with an M4, it's designed for the GX4000. If this option proves inconvenient, I can disable or modify it in future updates.
