Oh no, I wasn't aware Discord was a requirement. I don't use a lot of social platforms :(
Though, that's makes sense what you mentioned regarding the theme. There is a whole lore I have planned out that would definitely satisfy the theme, it's been put on backlog until I can get mobile play into a better place.
My plan was to use the feed system to introduce small messages and such, along with the S&D missions to explain more of the story/lore. It's all supposed to be a little indirect, though. So it's supposed to be more of a story to follow if paying a little attention, kind of like an easter egg, I guess you can say. We also have "Intel" tab that will play a role in saving key information for the lore and such.
Now that I know the theme, I'll see if I can start pushing more focus into it. I'll have to look into creating a Discord soon, lol.

Hey Anis! I couldn’t find an official “Light and Dark” theme listed for the jam, but if that’s what you mean, I can definitely see PHOSPHOR fitting it in a couple different ways.
Literally, the whole game is built around bright light-trails cutting through a dark grid. The light is your weapon, but it can also become a danger to you, so there’s kind of a balance between the two.
If you mean light and dark more as good and evil, there’s something there too. At its core it’s you versus an opposing force, but warfare usually isn’t as simple as one side seeing themselves as evil. Both sides can believe they’re the “good” side and view the other as the enemy. I think that ambiguity fits OP pretty well too.
Thanks for checking it out and asking!

The Last Taters is built around practical knowledge rather than a traditional technology tree. Taters learn by doing, gain experience, teach apprentices, debate discoveries, develop civic traditions, and pass knowledge between generations. The Gardener cannot directly control them and instead has to judge when intervention is wise and when the civilization should be allowed to learn from its own experience.
Thanks for the detailed feedback, really appreciate it.
You're spot on about the onboarding and structure spacing. Both are near the top of my list for the next update. The character select screen needs better guidance upfront, and the gaps between structures should feel like a risky but viable move, not something you always avoid. Those close-call moments are exactly what I want the game to deliver.
Good call on the design doc advice too. I've been building one out as I go and it's made a big difference.
The multiplayer/expanding map idea is actually something I've already been researching and have a phased plan for. Definitely on the horizon, just want to get single player locked in first.
I look forward to seeing your game grow as well! I enjoyed the overall theme and mechanics.
Thanks again, more updates coming.
Thanks a ton for taking the time to play it and write all of this up! A few of these actually line up with things I've noticed myself, especially the responsiveness, so hearing it from someone playing on completely different hardware is really helpful. The framerate/freezing issue is definitely going to be my first priority to dig into.
I hadn't considered ESC conflicting with browser fullscreen either, so that's a great catch. And I really like the idea of audio being more useful than just background music/SFX, especially using sound to help identify what's happening outside your immediate view. That could fit really well with some of the systems I'm working toward.
And yes, I'd absolutely love the VOD when it's uploaded! Watching somebody encounter everything for the first time would be incredibly useful. Thanks again!
I have PLENTY planned, but I'll try and have some self restraint and focus on the performance and such as you noted, lol.
Sure thing!
For feedback, mainly just what works and what doesn't, lol. This isn't my main project, just something I'm mainly messing around with. This is the first project where I'm trying to use AI, so anything to help with that aspect.
I was always a fan of Tron back in the day so it's more of a personal nostalgia thing...
