This was so fffuuuuunnn oh my god how is he so cute? SeriousLY??? How??? Hes charmed my pants off i cant wait for the full GAME!

Spoilers 4 sure

This was genuinely one of the most fun VN's I have ever played. I replayed the entire game over again only days after my first play through, and the only reason why I didn't replay it the very next day was because my computer gave out on me. Chao is incredibly endearing even in his most insane moments, that he's the type of character you can't help but love. I dare say this is probably my favorite visual novel of the year, just because of how he's written alone. I seriously had crazy fun replaying it, and now my head is filled with Chao. MC is an incredibly relatable character, though incredibly lonely. Their desire to be desired outweighs their right mind, and it makes sense why MC is drawn to Chao, who seems so reliable, despite his glaring red flags. In spite of those flags, he remains reliable to MC throughout the story; as early on as offering to drive them home, to being a continuous presence in their and finding time to see them, and then to being there for them in ending 3. To someone who's living in what looks like a state of solitude, being seen is often enough; but him consistently wanting to do more with them drew me in even more.

I'm not going to lie, I was moderately into him from the start of the story. He seemed like a relatively normal guy, so I joked to myself, "Well, how bad could it possibly get?" and before I knew it, I'd fallen straight into his honey trap. I couldn't understand how this seeming normal individual would fit the title of 'Yandere'. He appeared normal; understood boundaries well, a lot of his dialogue felt alarmingly human too- I could easily picture myself having those conversations with him in a real life, which drew me in even more. He felt real; with his own established opinions, interests, and job. I felt surprised as we got to know more about him, as you would any other person; the fact that he rode a motorcycle despite the gentle way he handles himself/comes across, or the fact that he leaned more towards introversion when I had him pinned as an ambivert leaning extrovert. Of course, I saw the smaller flags at the start of the game, his hesitance to explain that he liked one side of the city more to explain how he happened to be in the same library as MC on a random Tuesday afternoon, lies that didn't align with his true realof Jane, how he gives MC his complete focus/constant monitoring on how they're gauge their surroundings or how he readjusts himself when he thinks they'll react negatively towards him, how he got quiet at the mention of Owen during the photo-booth scene (though I struggle to decide if he was feeling jealous or guilty toward Owen in that moment; honestly, it felt like he had just sort of shut down for a brief moment. Though, he is the jealous type as well.)

I definitely am not the type to dig deeper into things, so I probably would've gone down the route of Ending 2, only deviating to probably ghosting him after a conversation with Saira (after planting a wet one on his lips at the doorstep scene, Oopsies. hehe. I seriously thought there would've been an option to ghost him after that, lol)

I super loved the scene you get with Jane and him, hours before the story takes place, or the monologue ending 4 where he describes the first time he saw MC. Ugh, he's seriously so charming, and the little back and forth he has with MC depending on the color they like, or the rushing to find them during the exhibits, or how he glows whenever MC shows interest in his interests, the same way he glows when MC talks about their own.  I'm particularly obsessed with the way he doesn't exactly change when his more unsavory side shows itself; in the doorstep scene, its perfectly described as "His mask slipping" and you get a real taste of the restraint he's been holding back, I love that little stressed expression he makes where he smiles tensely at mc, either bashful or failing to keep up the image he's trying to put up. DO NOT get me started on the "I just wanted to see." SCENE ENDING 3 WHERE HE HAS THAT SMILE AND MC PROBABLY LOOKS AT HIM LIKE :| LOL MC is stronger than me; lock in Chao, we have to bury the body.

Ending 4 has to be my favorite just because how much of a mask slip we see from Chao; it feels a little easier to grasp because there is no immediate danger; the only thing you should be worried about is Chao himself (and he even clears MC's nerves by keeping himself in their line of view). I was eating everything about that scene up, from them backing away to him closing that distance, how he struggled and failed to contain himself, stifling smiles and his surprise when MC told him they'd stay. He's so... INTERESTING, something is wrong with that man and I want THAT one. He's certainly meticulous, but i love how he can't maintain it fully. He slips up, one way or another and it makes him more charming to me. I have so much more I want to say, to know about him! I would love to see more of MC and him in an established relationship, or even about his family. How he met Jane and their almost mother-son dynamic (which means pain and suffering for whoever the son is, I suppose), what drove him into his career, his fascination of death. Not to mention, he's so damn cute. I yearn like crazy, I miss his unhinged ass.

Anyway, it's probably unsurprising I bought the keychain as soon as I realized there was one and it will receive a lot of love as soon as I can get my hands on it. Seriously, Chao changed the game for me. I'm crazy into this game and plan on giving Viricidal a chance as soon as my laptop revives itself again.

Chao... ugh. I still have sooo much I want to say. This game was amazing and sooo much fun. Thank you, linglyum
