I first played this...hmm, maybe in 2022. I remember it was Autumn, and my beloved cat (RIP) was sleeping beside me during each character playthrough. She was always near me while I was playing indie otome games. This game brightened my mood and made me feel nostalgic. Reggie was my favorite at first. His laugh made me melt, and he was such a supportive new friend. All the endings I got were satisfying and heartwarming.
Now in 2026, I only replayed Jim's route so far and I have to say I've grown more attracted to them. Plus I feel like I unlocked a different ending which was exciting. And yeah, I hate to admit that I still find Nico physically hot even though...you know.
The songs were catchy and definitely fitted the vibes of each character. I wish my college Halloween party experiences had been like this game. Anyway, I need to replay the other character routes. And I will always connect this game with the memory of my cat and those Autumnal days. I haven't been playing a lot of indie otome/visual novel games lately, but replaying "Hearts & Hexes" reminded me why I appreciate the lack of stress, the uniqueness, the inclusivity, the maturity, and the artistry of these kind of indie games. Thanks!
