And the best surprise for last:

Those of you who took part in last year’s event and own a "2025 Multicard" will know that there is a menu used to launch the games.

The music for this year’s Multicard menu comes from none other than Masanori Hikichi - the brilliant composer who, among other works, created the legendary soundtracks for *Terranigma* and *Ys IV*! He has created a piece of music exclusively for this Game Jam, which will be available to hear only via the "2026 Game Jam Multicard".

I hope this provides an extra boost of motivation for the final two weeks of the Game Jam! :-)
Good luck everyone and have fun!

Randy Linden, the legendary programmer of the SNES version of Doom - who developed an enhanced SNES edition of the game in 2026 - donated two autographed copies of the ultimate SNES Doom version as well as two rumble controllers for the SNES, as prizes for our Game Jam.
He has also joined the jury, and we are delighted to have the expertise of such a phenomenal game developer in our midst.
Thank you very much and welcome aboard, Randy!

A big thank you to Shahzad, the founder of the BrewOtaku-magazine for donating a free digital issue for all participants like he already did last year. Thank you very much for all your support!

Also big thanks to the people at Craftpix who donated 3 one-year-memberships for their website. Craftpix is an online store for high quality graphic assets for game developer and we hope you find much inspiration for more SNES homebrew games on their website.

Really nice one :-)
I like the music too ... quite relaxing ...

Well done!

Absolutely!
We’d love to hear about your projects. Post here, team up with others, ask for help or advice, share your ideas and progress...
The core idea behind the jam is to build an SNES developer community, learn together, have fun, and create games along the way...
So please don’t hesitate to share updates on your projects, even if they aren’t finished yet.

Wow! Congrats on finishing your long-time-project! Really impressive Sprite-work.

Are you going to do a cart release too?

Oh, could you please add Paypal as payment option?

Wow, that was a really tough challenge!

Thank you for this great game.

If you want to continue SNESDEV you might be interested in the Game Jam later this year:

Is it allowed to contribute to more than 1 entry ?

Yes, you can contribute in multiple games, regardless of whether you contribute graphics, music, or program code.

Is Fastrom / Slowrom allowed?

That's both ok.

Challenge accepted :-)

In various Discord channels, there were questions about the restrictions and rules for this game jam. I'm trying to collect them here so everyone can get the answers. Feel free to ask your own questions here as well.

May I use at least a little bit of SRAM (for wram -> sram -> wram DMA tricks)?

No. the technical restrictions are set, to make the games work on the Multicarts. The Multicart has no SRAM so your game wouldnt work if you use SRAM.
If you want to continue your game after the jam, you are free to add whatever chips you like of course.

Is it correct that the games may be max. 512KB in size (last year it was 256KB)?

Yes, thats correct. You have more space for levels, music and so on this time.

Are interlaced games ok?

Interlace is used to double the vertical resolution. I read this might cause display problems with some modern TVs. However games which use interlace will run on the Multicarts, so: Yes, you are allowed to use interlace.

The Game Jam is announced in January and will start in August. What am I allowed to do before it starts?

The SNES is a difficult beast to code on. You may use the time to figure out how stuff works, set up a develoment toolchain, create a game-engine (music-player, spriteroutines, DMA-handler, whatever), write tools (gfx-converter, level-editors, whatever), build a team with other pixel-artists, musicians, coders and so on.
The game itself should be done in the Game Jam timeframe.

Will there be a theme for the Game Jam?

We thought about that. It would be a good way to make sure the games themself are developed in the given timeframe (see last question). However we didnt announce a theme, so there wont be one this time.

Are there any restrictions for the input devices?

No. Feel free to use whatever input devices you like in your games, but if you use ultrarare devices that are not supported by emulators and noone owns (XBand-keyboard, Pachinco controller etc.), it will be difficult for the jury to test your game and noone will be able play it afterwards.
So it might be best to stick with the usual stuff (joypad, multitap, mouse, maybe lightgun...).

If anyone is still reading this, there will be a new SNESDEV Game Jam in 2026.

Fell free to join here:

/jam/snes-dev-game-jam-2026

and to spread the word whereever you can.

The SNES deserves some love :-)

Updates about coming events?
Well, I think on the same channels as this year: The SNES Development Server on discord, X ...
We'll try to spread the word ... and hope to hear from all of you again :-)

The jury has spoken - the jam is over!

Congratulations to the winners,  and actually to all the participants. We're still absolutely thrilled by the number of submissions and the creativity and quality of your games.

We never expected so many people to participate and develop their own games on the SNES. You revived the SNES scene, and we enjoyed reading all the discussions on Discord and seeing how some of the projects evolved — and then we were surprised by all the other games that came out at the end of the submission period...

We'd love to see you continue all your amazing projects and further develop your amazing games.

The main goal of the jam was to get people excited about SNES homebrewing, connect them, and develop games for the SNES, which offered very few homebrew games compared to other systems of the time.

We think this game jam was a complete success, and we're considering hosting something similar next year.

Now that the jam is over, we can reveal a little secret:

The promised multicarts were developed by none other than Goldlocke. He not only designed and produced the boards, but also programmed the menu for the carts. We can't thank you enough, buddy! This wouldn't have been possible without you, and without all the great games you've developed over the years, the SNES homebrew scene wouldn't be the same! Thanks for everything you've done!

We'll start programming the games on these carts soon, but this will take some time. We'll contact you as soon as the programming is complete.

Thanks again to all the participants, as well as to the judges and everyone who helped spread the word about this game jam. You're amazing! We hope to see you all again at the upcoming event next year.

Long live the SNES :-)

Hi Jwrayth,

I would like to send something to you. Do you have a discord or X account or an Email I could use?

Hi Tarsi,

I would like to send something to you. Do you have a discord or X account or an Email I could use?

Shahzad Sahaib, one of the jury members for this Gamejam and publisher of BrewOtaku, donated a digital edition of the magazine for every participant of the SNES Gamejam 2025.

A personal download link will be send to everyone who submitted an entry.

BrewOtaku is the magazine for retro homebrew gaming, covering fresh games for old consoles, handhelds, and computers. If you didnt participate in the Gamejam, you can order the magazine here: https://www.brewotaku.com/

Thank you very much for your donation, Shahzad!

Hello Tarsi,

Thanks for uploading your game and congratulations on your first SNES project. That's exactly what Gamejam is all about: motivating people to develop on the SNES, connect with each other, and learn together. So feel free to share your experiences, get feedback, inspiration, and help from other homebrewers in this forum, and connect with pixel artists or chiptune musicians.

The Gamejam had a specific timeframe, and your game was uploaded after the deadline – so it won't be included in the official rankings. However, we wanted to give your game an audience, so we've requalified it to make it more visible to everyone who visits the Gamejam website.

I hope this is ok for you and I'm looking forward to playing the final version of Tiny Mancala.

We had hoped to get some people involved in SNES programming, but we never expected such a response...

You are incredible!!

Hi Dr.Ludos,

as you already mentioned DMG-vs-SGB doesnt fit the Gamejams requirements and cannot be put on the Mulitcart. But even if it cannot be regular part of the Gamejam, it's technical quite impressive - so we leave it on the site to give it some visibility.

Thats perfectly fine!

The no-port-rule is mostly to avoid possible copyright problems and what you describe is absolutely ok.

We are beyond excited to unveil the extraordinary lineup of our jury team, a powerhouse group of retro gaming and homebrew experts and enthusiasts, who will bring their passion and expertise to the table!

John Hancock - Youtuber & Retro gaming enthusiast - https://x.com/swlovinist

Matt Hughson - NES homebrewer and creator of the Homebrew Showcase videos - https://x.com/matthughson

This dream team is ready to dive into the submissions and celebrate the works of our participants!

Yes, you can use FastRom.

Added a explanation with our multi-card-idea at the end of the jam-description.

Ein neues SNES-Homebrew...
Das ist mal eine nette kleine vorweihnachtliche Überraschung!
Danke dafür :-)

Wario perhaps?

In level 16 there are 2 rings completely surrounded by walls.

Hi BriG,

nice game - having fun with it. Is it possible that level 11 has unreachable areas? I wasn't able to finish it.

Best regards

Nice one! Good job!

2025 there will be a gamejam for the SNES:
/jam/snesdev-2025
Feel free to join if you like ...
Best regards

Very nice, thank you for the game.
Is it done with PVSNESlib or with pure assembler?

I cannot answer the question, but i love the idea of a 'next iteration'.

A big 'THANK YOU' to all participants for their cool projects. I would still love a multi-cart with all the JAM-games on it. Maybe the possibility to have your own game on a SNES-JAM-202X-cart would even motivate some more developers for the next round?

When the idea for the jam was born on the snesdev forum one idea was to put the games onto a multi-cart and sell some of them to sponsor coming competitions or to pay for some prices for the game creators. I dont know if this is still a plan, but if so SGB games would be a problem.

Hi there,

I really love your Explosive Pancaces tune, but I cannot contact you on dircord, since we share no server...

Did you work with SNES GSS before?
