Amazing book, hard recommend.
I was expecting a collection of short stories, but what I got was a nonlinear narrative, a character study of an interesting and varied cast, an exploration of a unique and interesting world, and the promised sadness, porn, and apocalypse presented in the context of a relentlessly hopeful theme. The more I read, the less I was able to put it down.
