Hello!

We're honestly rather surprised to hear that someone would remember our old teenage years project, it's quite an honour!

Some weeks ago we were managing our backups and unfortunately found out that throughout the years we somehow managed to delete all the copies of the original project files for this endeavour. We have managed to find a way to still edit the files through a different program, but that method is a bit finicky considering we don't remember which scripts do what.

As it currently stands, there's one bug that would be neat to (somehow) fix but outside of that, we feel like delivering a proper QOA update or rebalancing the whole thing would take a lot of effort for what little impact this game has.

To sum it up, we're pleasantly surprised to hear that somebody may have genuinely remembered this project! Unfortunately, we feel that a proper update for it would take too much effort for how little impact it would make.

Hello! Honestly, we're quite surprised someone had enough dedication to reach the final level, so great job!

Regarding the mirrors, you can use the Candle to remove their chains. The rust on the other mirrors can only be scrapped off from the inside.

If you wish to see more of what the game has to offer, consider checking the challenges menu! With enough of them turned on, the story would progress upon starting a new game.

We'd recommend using a different save file for furthering the game, though. Challenge unlocks, achievements and something extra is kept between save files.

There are also 2 secret areas you may have missed... Or rather, passed right by them when you were just getting started, or didn't have enough time to fully get through It. Just be careful, as each of those will test your speed and mastery of the game's mechanics in their own way.

Hope you've had fun with the game so far and good luck!

There's no need to apologise! We simply prefer to wish the best onto others, leave the world a better place rather than worse and all.

We're doing everything we can to get through the hard times. Life loves to leave surprises so who knows what creative endeavours we'll end up with in the future!

Thank you for the comment, and a small pro-tip: manual coyote ledge grabs help a ton with late game levels if you learn how to use it.

Hello! Glad to hear you found the game interesting.

Regarding the development time, it took us around 5 years to the first release, but we had many periods of burnout. Some weeks or even months we would either barely make any progress or not work on it at all. So, we suppose 2-3-ish years would be a good answer.

Interestingly enough, there's a ton of lore for the game. A lot of the story dialogue is only accessible through beating the game at least 5 times, turning on more and more challenges each play-through. However, the global story of the game's world is a lot larger than that.

The story and world building for this game's universe has started good 5 years before the game's development. Unfortunately, due to mental health issues, we couldn't add everything we wish we did. Even with all those extras, the game was originally planned to be interconnected with several other, now cancelled, game projects, all telling their own story yet tying together at the end for a grandiose culmination.

We could go on for hours about the passion that went into this universe, but we'll spare you the time. lol.

Still, we're happy we managed to create at least some form of experience. As much as there are still bugs and balancing issues we'd love to fix some day if we ever manage to rekindle that game dev flame in the future.

Thank you for the comment and for your time. Hope you can get some fun out of the game, and have a great day!

After several years of working on it, I can finally release a demo for SItD2!

Steps Into the Darkness 2 is a hardcore platformer made specifically to test your skill, precision and patience.
The main gimic is the darkness itself: Whenever you move, your fov shrinks, meaning that you can't just run all the time. And the lower your fov is, the smaller your reaction window becomes!

The demo includes first two locations, a few challenge modes and one of the boss fights.
As well as a bunch of customization options in a form of trails for those who unlock secrets!

Do you think you can beat the game at the maximum difficulty level?
Well, right now you can't as it's just a demo, but it's still a great idea to try yourself out!

I made MOVING clone model! I made it in XYZ 3d program, so you can print it! I made it manually! You just need to glue it right. There are also a fire sword, fire hummer and fire bow! You need rubber to make bow shoot. All files can be opened in standard windows 3d builder.
