Hello all~
I've been primarily an Illustrator my whole life, but recently broke into 3D modeling for my own use as references, and I just wanted to talk a little about my process and what it is I could be putting my focus on when I provide my free texture resources.
I take my little hand-me-down digital canon with me everywhere, and sometimes we actually get the opportunity to do some vacationing around and recently have been taking photos with the intention of getting textures from them. I have around 1700 textures backlogged over the last few months of playing around with editing and whatnot, but outside of organizing them by type I feel like everything is still a little disjointed.
At the current moment I have the following categories; Abstract, Animals, Bark & Wood, Brick & Blocks, Buildings & Construction, Clutter, Concrete, Dirt & Mud, Doors, Effects, Fabric, Faunra, Fences, Figures, Fire, Floor & Ceiling, Flora, Fur & Feathers, Grafitti, Grass & Groundcover, Gravel & Sand, Greebles, Light & Lenses, Metal, Objects, Organic, Paper, Roof, Skybox, Stone & Gems, Vehicles, Walls, Water, Windows.
This is currently how I organize what I have going and it will probably be subject to change in the future but is there anything you see missing? Is there a type of texture you have been looking for but can't find, or texture themes you would love to see? I love making these things for myself but I also love to share the materials I make and might as well try to fill some missing gaps.
Programs I use: Croctile3D, TextureRipper, SLK_Img2Pix & Clip Studio Paint. And in the beginning of playing around with making textures, I was only editing the 128PX versions, but now I am editing the 382PX version first.

Thought I would make a place to share some of the work I'm doing making my textures, as well as share some of the photos I got them from because some of them are nice pictures, hope that's okay to do around here~ So I have had a nice little Canon for a little over two decades now that still works very nicely, and only recently I thought to actually do something with the photos I have taken once I started needing textures for my own art.
Some of the photos;

Some of the assets will not be submitted as I want to retain a few name brand signs and objects for my own projects, but most everything else will eventually finished being edited to be uploaded for either free here or for a fee on Itch.io (Some things already are). But, I find the process of making these cathartic and mind numbing in a productive way so I have quite the back log of images to edit.

I'm using a combination of programs for making these which are Texture Ripper for getting each initial image and CSP for editing any imperfections and attempting to make some images more tillable or less visually different, then I use SLK Img2pix to fine tune the dither on the 128x128 texture I make and finally Tiled to end it off~

I did change my process a little in the middle of beginning this new art journey, so some things like the flora textures above need to be redone in the current process so everything feels cohesive.

I have been taking photos of a lot of items around my own house once I started thinking about photos with textures in mind, and slowly I am building up a little Thing folder of stuff I wouldn't mind cluttering my projects up with while making them. I am primarily an illustrator, so 99.9% of the 3D models I make will be with the intent of using them as reference for an illustration, but I still want the things I make to look nice, because what is the point of learning to 3D model and not learning how to do it right the first time lol'

What are some textures you think are lacking, I would love to try and find some textures that are wanted on my travels. I started making these about a month ago and would appreciate some feedback because I want to make sure I'm not making a fatal mistake and someone won't be able to use whatever it is I upload if I do upload them.
