My new favorite work by Jemma Topaz. This was fun, it was overflowing with heart and it had me sitting and saying "wow" to myself more than a few times. I think a lot of people sleep on short story collections, but they absolutely should not with Lo, Nuns!

I honestly struggle to point to a part of this collection and use words like "favorite", I loved every single one of these stories enough that they all compete. Each and every nun had me hooting and hollering, and hilariously the only nun I was like "meh" about had a fucking redemption arc.

Being a book that, by my read, is fundamentally about the perseverance and community-building of women oppressed by men, it delves into some pretty dark shit. It doesn't pull its punches, but the overall thrust trends toward the uplifting. When the cards are on the table, the sisterhood comes thru.

my brain is mush, sword self-yuri is all that remains. This novel is such a good mindfuck. It could be one of the greatest pieces of extreme sff I've ever read on the level of all the old greats and with none of the baggage.

the prose is beautifully crafted and simultaneously jarringly real. the narrative flows with the characters as they wrestle with the brokenness of their existence. The action is dizzying, the despair and longing palpable, and despite everything it is tinged with hope and love.

you should read this book. you should tell people about this book. there is something great, something hard to wrap your mind around and impossible to put into sufficient words going on in this story. it will call to you like it is a shard of something that came from within your soul.

I am very glad you enjoyed it! It is not at the top of my projects, but I do plan to write more short stories exploring this world (and all the ways to be in lesbians with it ^^)
