There is some coding involved with Renpy, but many people say it is one of the easier engines to learn. It all depends on how complicated your game is going to be. I’m no genius and I picked up Renpy without too much trouble. I just watched youtube tutorials, practiced along with them, looked at sample code, read the documentation, and in one weekend I felt comfortable enough to begin in earnest. Good luck!

I love the setting of your project and the images make you feel like you are transported back to Victorian times. Anyone with gothic interests or who enjoys a good mystery should definitely check it out!

Thank you! It means a lot to hear that from a fellow fan of gothic themes!

That is a great combo of interests! It’s nice to mix things up and try different styles. Good luck with your future projects!

The engine I use is Ren’py. I enjoy learning about its version of python, but still have a long way to go before becoming proficient. One day, I would like to maybe do something small with RPGMaker or a cheaper knockoff.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I appreciate your kind words. :)

While my game isn’t quite brand new hot off the press, (published on 24th of Sept), it doesn’t have much audience, so I thought it would still be a good time to post it here. So what is this game I speak of…well I am glad you asked, friend! I shall tell you.

The Midnight Trooper is a short, kinetic novel based on Washington Irving’s, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In it, I focus primarily on the encounter between Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. We are getting right to the good stuff! If you are looking for a classic Halloween story to enjoy, look no further.

Awkward First Game Trailer:

I even forced myself to create a youtube short (gag) but I won’t subject you to that added horror.

Thank you. I recently finished my kinetic novel, The Midnight Trooper, but it is not indexed yet. Fingers crossed it happens before Halloween. Right now, I am putting the last few finishing touches on my script for a second kinetic novel and my full-length visual novel is at about 75%-80% complete. I want to get it done by early 2027 if it kills me (and it may very well do just that!).

Mmm…Nana’s recipes. I can almost smell the wonderful kitchen aromas from here. This story provides an immediate hit to the nostalgia feels. The premise looks fun and the UI is just what you want; attractive, easy-to-read and navigate. The achievements are a nice garnish on top. Players always enjoy earning some game achievements! I think Recipe Frenzy is really well-done (pardon the pun!).

I quite like the visual style of your game (it almost reminds me of chalkboard illustrations come to life). I too am a new developer and Itch seems like a great launching pad for people like you and me. We can post projects here and get honest feedback from both developers and players. Good luck on your current and future projects!

This looks very cool. Your collection of games is very impressive, I must say.

For me, not seeing a project through to completion is the only failure. Now that I’ve actually got something out there in the Itch ecosystem (albeit a very small kinetic novel), it feels like a victory. Anything else on top of that is a bonus. I know not everyone will like what I create, but if one person does and gets some manner of enjoyment from it, then I’m happy. You can indeed be proud that you didn’t give up and got multiple games completed it appears. I say, congratulations are in order!

Love the gothic setting, that is my happy place. The late Victorian era just seems perfect for horror, mystery, and romance too.

That is an impressive resume. MonoGame sounds perfect for your needs and expertise. I was never able to advance very far in programming. I only did a Basic course (get it? BASIC? Ok I’ll see myself out). Best of luck with your upcoming projects!

Cute! Makes you want to reach into the monitor and give Hammy a scratch behind the ear. I like the idea of being able to connect with other fuzzy friends over HamChat. :D The Unity visuals look amazing!

I very much like your game page set up. It shows plenty of screenshots and game footage too. The Backrooms aesthetic is a solid choice. Best of luck!

Greetings, new solo/indie developer here trying to get my first kinetic novel out into the world (and beyond if any alien friends are listening). Best wishes on your upcoming game(s)!
