I really liked this one. It’s the only jam game I’ve tried that was genuinely stressful to play, but in a good way. I was almost expecting something to attack me every time I put the heuristics guide down, due to the creepy tone. As others pointed out, it doesn’t seem like anything happens after the countdown ends and I wasn’t really sure if I was progressing or not, but the atmosphere you managed to create with the unsettling audio and creepy art still made me enjoy this one a lot. I was a bit confused at the beginning as there was a lot to read in the in-game guide to start with, I think allowing the player to read over the instructions before the timer starts would have helped, but I think I got the hang of what I had to do eventually. I get that most of that is just due to the time limits from the jam though, I think this could make for a really good horror experience if you expand on it :D
Quite fun and a unique control scheme. I was able to complete it on my second try after getting a hang of the controls. Only issue I noticed is the laser sometimes snaps to one of the sides randomly instead of moving to it smoothly which feels a bit unfair as you can’t react to it. Only happened a couple times though. Otherwise, I had fun, good job!
Thanks for playing! I do agree with your feedback, it was difficult to decide on game balance when there's not much time for testing so we decided to lean more into the easier side just to be safe, to not risk the enemies being too frustrating. Over time, the enemies do get faster, at around 1:30 they end up being slightly faster than the player can fall so they will eventually just catch up to you but they aren't too difficult to dodge. We considered having more enemy types and obstacles to deal with this but ultimately didn't have time to finish those.
One of the earliest obstacle ideas we had was a giant moving wall that would spawn which would force you to either loop around the bottom, top or sides of the level but we ultimately couldn't get this to work well and decided to just focus on one enemy type in the time that we had. That would've been one way to prevent the player from just falling endlessly.
Thanks for playing! Another objective would have been nice, that is a good idea. We had some plans for additional enemy types and obstacles to dodge, and I also wanted to add a directional indicator for nearby enemies to make them easier to find. Unfortunately I was personally a bit busy this year during most of the jam so we had to keep the gameplay and features simple to get it done. The rest of the team did a fantastic job on the visuals and audio though.
That's a pretty fun take on snake. I like that having things hit your tail is actually helpful, since you can try to slap asteroids to destroy them. Kinda reminds me of slither.io but singleplayer. It does start to feel like there's not quite enough space in the playing area as you progress, but that also adds to the challenge. Good job!
Thanks for playing!
We initially had 60 second rounds but it felt a bit too quick in testing so I changed it to 120 seconds towards the end. Unfortunately, didn't have much time to test how that round length felt, I do agree that it ended up being a bit too long. Rotation speed could definitely have been looked into too. My initial issue was that the ship would spin too fast when it was lightweight, making it hard to control. Lowering the rotation strength fixed that but it had the downside of making heavy ships hard to turn. This is somewhat addressed by being able to strafe and aim laser turrets and missiles later on so you don't need to turn as much, but it does leave an awkward midpoint where you're too heavy to turn but only have the regular guns available. This game could certainly use a bit of rebalancing of many of the physics values.
Pretty fun game. It's interesting to see other takes on the expanding space ship idea. I got to around 6 minutes before my PC started struggling, but it's very satisfying to grow and get stronger. Gameplay almost reminds me of vampire survivors, it would have been nice to see harder enemies over time as you kinda become unstoppable quickly. But the way you pick add on extra parts by just flying into them is fun, especially when a lot of them spawn. Good job!
Interesting game with a nice style. I like how creepy and weird it feels, even got a couple scares. Would've been nice to maybe see a bit more variety with puzzles or leaning more into the horror with something following you, since most items were pretty simple to get to and pick up, but the atmosphere still kept me interested to the end. I also enjoyed the dialogue with the guy next to the tower. A nice little game, good job!
Very unique and creative idea. It maybe would have been more interesting to have a couple more parameters to play around with, although it's still a nice ecosystem simulation that you made in a couple days. I like how the scales are vastly different but still feel connected, like seeing the shadows of the clouds on your garden. Very chill game, good job.
This is one of the best games I've tried for this jam. It seemed pretty simple and straight-forward for the first levels but then I realised I had to think ahead how the level should look and play several notes together at the right time to make it. Level 4 especially felt like learning an instrument. Challenging but very rewarding and satisfying. If expanded, this could make for a really nice full puzzle game. Good job!
That's impressive for a jam game. Almost feels like a level taken from a full game with a whole voice acted story and visuals. I did manage to softlock myself on the stacking barrels section, as some of the barrels fell out of the room, leaving me with not enough to climb up to the power cell but that's the only main issue I encountered. I just restarted the game and managed to do it on my second try. I liked a lot of the rooms, especially the final room. Realising I had to grab an entire star was so cool. Good job!
This was actually pretty fun. I like how it made me think fast whenever I had many requests to enter, especially as I was trying to think of alternative numbers to use -- focusing on the primes, fibonacci, powers, etc. could make it a good educational game. The cards do overlap a bit which made me sometimes misclick the wrong one but other than that, I liked it. Good job :^)
