How does the game fit the theme?
There are multiple paths for each room. You can take the safe path or risk it for the biscuit. Also biscuits are a currency and you are in search for the great golden biscuit.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
My character is premade and some blueprints. But I had to change stuff to fit the game so everything was at least touched. - I didn't buy anything.

How many people worked on the game?

This was a really fun game, probably my favorite thus far! I might be biased since I also made a roguelike rat game. I really enjoyed the movement mechanics! At first the double jump wasn’t working for some reason, but after beating the first level on the left and trying the three doors it seemed to start working all of a sudden.

I think I did it without buying any powerups? image.png

Actually I think I know what you mean now… so I continue going through that same door on the left/bug door and it disables the double jump for the ice map/carnival area. But the carnival area sort of requires a double jump to get to the top of the ferris wheel.

Edit: Nvm, I figured out how to get onto the ferris wheel with no double jumpimage.png

Ha. I am glad you liked it so much. That gives me confidence the final game will be enjoyed.

On one of my final test runs hours before submitting the game, for some reason I got an extra power sooner than I should have. And since the doors that give you your powers don’t open when you have that power, you could get trapped in the shop room. So that’s what that side door is. It just teleports you to the next area. And I wrote that sign basically saying “I found a bug. I don’t have time to figure it out. This is my fix.” Lol.

But I also realized it gives you the option to have a no power run. Since you would be skipping the doors that give you the double jump, shrink and glide powers. I had nothing to show you did a no power run cuz I didn’t have time to test to see if it was even possible. But in hindsight adding an extra winner sign at the end would give players something to boast about in the comments. Increasing engagement. O well. - O and then a third winner banner for people who did it without powers and shop power ups. That would really get people’s competitive nature out. Man I dropped the ball on this one. Lol

Thanks for being the first to confirm it is possible.

Hello. I  just came out with my first early build demo of the mouse game this jam submission was based on and am getting the word out.  - https://milantique-studios.itch.io/a-maze-in-mouse-demo-01

Awesome rooms, I liked how different they all were! I also enjoyed the twist on a mouse in a maze idea. Great job!

Developer

Thank you. I am glad you had fun.

Great platformer, with some more polish it would be awesome!

I really like how you handle the small rooms with multiple challenges, it's very good!

A great entry! Good job!

It's a really enjoyable platformer.
but in the first door sometimes when you shrink you can't move anymore.
other than that, great visuals, and really nice levels.

Awesome. Enjoyment is the most important thing to me with my games.

But that shrink ability bug sounds major. Does your movement and camera stop or just the movement? Is it for a short time or do you have to reset? If you don't mind, could you describe what happens?

Submitted

Just the movement, and I did have to restart the game.  It's after I failed the parkour a couple of times. I would respawn and have complete mobility, but when I shrink to access the parkour again and retry it, the mouse just won't move.

That's a tough platformer, at least for me! Haha Every obstacle had its own approach and the upgrades were rewarding. I like the mouse and its animations, especially how it glides  and its various idle animations. I was confused at the beginning- I thought I would be able to double jump from the start and I was worried it just wasn't working. Fun and challenging game!

Awesome. If there is anything I want people to take away from my game it's to be that they had a good time playing it.

Yeah you aren't the first person to get confused about what to do. That is my fault. I assumed people knew how roguelikes worked. Next time I will make a better tutorial room.

The rooms remind me a bit of Mario 64 with how the sky and clouds are painted on and the challenges felt interesting. The concept of a rougelite platformer is really cool as well. The controls did feel a little floaty but nothing game breaking at all. I think this has great potential and I hope you keep at it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks man. Yeah I am working on a full game and I have been using game jams as a way to porotype levels. I have written down the full stand alone rougelite game for a future project but for now I think it would be cool to have it as a single level to give variation to the game. And you aren't the only one thinking it feels a little floaty so I am gona have revisit my movement.

I loved the visuals and the idea of this game. I had a really hard time getting onto the second elevator. Double-space doesn't seem to double-jump, and then RMB didn't seem to glide. I tried all three doors and couldn't get anywhere. On the leftmost door, there is a ledge on the left, but when I try to land on it, I get bounced off. Anyways, I had fun failing!

The game is sorta a roguelike. That first room you start in gives you a power, (shrink, glide or double jump) depending on which door you go through. The pictures above the door show which is which. If the doors aren’t giving you powers then that is an interesting bug since all they do is flipping on a boolean.

That door that is already open is a bug door. The doors won’t open if you already have the power which in one of my play tests I somehow got an extra power before I was suppose to which trapped me in one of the power rooms. So I added that door to push people forward since I didn’t have time to figure out why that happened. It won’t give any powers. Although I probably should of added a 5th door that does give you all your powers in case people wanted to do a run like that.

All the doors will randomly send you to 1 of 3 rooms. The first rooms force you to use whichever power you chose by having 3 paths each beaten using the powers. And the next door repeats, you get sent to another set of 1 of 3 rooms. The 4th room you get sent to is one big room which is like a boss room. Then you get sent to a shop after that for another choice of powers and some power ups if you collected the biscuits.

I was able to make an ice themed set of rooms but I didn’t have time to make an ice boss room. And I rushed the final room so people could have a room using all 3 powers.

If im thinking of the correct room with the second elevator then you can dash to get a little bit extra height. Or walk off the edge first then jump can give you extra height too.

But the main thing I want for my games is for people to have fun so i am glad you enjoyed yourself.

I liked this a lot! Controls were a little wonky but I loved the level design!

Developer

Thanks I am glad you enjoyed it. What about the character controls feel wonky?

Submitted

The double spacing didn't work for double jump and I kind of juked a puzzle at one point by glitching out the glide feature!

Developer(+1)

Ha yeah the glide power is the strongest. You can get around a lot of traps with it. Even using it on things that launch you up will send you soaring. Thanks for the feedback.
