Theme – Genre Fusion:
The theme becomes apparent after the first scene transition (leaving the garden), where the tone shifts from idyllic and pastoral into an oppressive and surreal experience. The gameplay and setting reflect a fusion of traditional dungeon mechanics with psychological horror elements.

Note: This game deals in unsettling tone and pacing, and contains abstract representations of violence. There is no gore or explicit content.

Strange game style but it is interesting and I liked the voxel style art. As others said the movement was too slow and also had weird input lag too sometimes. Combat was good for the game and the theme was good too.

Nice work on the game, despite the speed problem it was good.

The movement is way too slow, but I like how weird it is.
For some reason it kept cutting to black before I could reach the end, but I watched BoneBrahs video.
The ending was weird also.

I think I'm [chiken] in [chiken] world and I've gone to [chiken] hell!

Ahahaha. I really liked the voxel start!

It's been written here before, but I'll say it again: the movement is very slow and I wish I could move with the button pressed instead of pressing it every time.

When I got past the “gut”, I came out to a room with chickens. I feel really bad for having to beat one of them with a stick ahahaha. I saw a door, thought I needed a key. However, I tried just walking through the door and it let me in! No key was needed (lots of chickens were saved!).

Next, I walked up to another chicken and I got just a black screen.

Interesting world! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Dungeon Crawler Jam.

Well I gotta say I didn't expect that ending.

The first area is great at feeling peacful and I like the voxel art chickens. The tonal shift to the second area is definitely a surprise.

I found the sprite rooster enemies with the rubber chicken noises funny, so good job on that!

As for the movement, I think it needs a lot of work. It's slow, requires individual keyboard presses which gets tiring especially with how slow the movement speed is. I also got off the grid in the first level, I think the code for turning or checking if the turn is complete needs to be looked over.

The combat is actually a little interesting, having the block mechanic does make combat a little more involved than just clicking until an enemy is dead. I genuinely don't know what the blue bar under the health is supposed to be, I'm assuming it was meant for the players block ability?

Also I think there's an opportunity for greater tonal shift in the second area by having some eerie music or ambience playing in the background.

Overall there's definitly areas for improvement, but ultimately I thought this was neat. Good work!

Hey! Fantastic game, I LOVE voxel artwork, so this really took the cake in terms of art. I was a bit confused on what to do at first, but carried on and ended up liking the horror shift overall : ) I liked the chicken chicken chicken itch page but I think a slower transition from text to all chicken would’ve been better in explaining the game somewhat. Otherwise, awesome project!!

WTF is this ending?! I love it.

I enjoyed the experience, I guess?

Movement is slow, which makes the stacked  commands even more awkward and steps are small, I can't say whether it makes this exact one game better or worse though considering the overall weirdness is its hook.

Yay I made it out! Only fought one chick though.

Movement is a bit slow and you end up off the grid sometimes, especially when turning.

A bit more response would be nice when picking up the key. Maybe have it be 3d or rotating more, since when you come from the side it is almost invisible.

Some sound effect when picking up items and unlocking and when you hit the enemies would be nice.

Keep at it!

Chicken… [chicken]? Well at first I was like wtf.. what’s going on and then I moved about and boom landed within the Dungeon. I spammed the Keyboard (the Movement is really awkward and too damn slow! ;) a lot to get to the first Encounter.. a Roster blocked my way. He was very stronk… took half my Health.. the little Bastard! He got a nice spanking tho… then I found a room with a Door and a Key… evaded al the Cocks and opened the Door and then was greeted with another Cock in my way and that fellow showed me the Way out :(

Overall a nice little game! It would have been better with snappier movement and some combat feedback tho ;)

I think there was some potential here but the slow movement really made this difficult to get through. There was movement queuing which is nice but the slow transitions made it a bit confusing sometimes. Overall, increase the movement speed! The transition to the nightmare world was a bit confusing too but I think the twist at the end was a good finale. I loved the pixel graphics!

My playthrough here at 22 minutes here

Thank you so much for playing and the constructive feedback! It def needs some work and I had to cut a lot to have *something* to turn in. The movement is supposed to be very slow, grindy, uncomfortable, and unfun, as weird as that sounds. Hopefully it will work better (and feel more cohesive) when the game is less sparse and minimal down the line lol

I really enjoyed the creepy vibe all the way to the end. The subtle soundtrack really kept me on edge too. Looking forward to some post jam polish on this one. Chicken, chicken chicken—chicken.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! It needs a lot of polish because the only thing I've mastered in game dev so far is dramatically over-scoping my projects vs time constraints lmao

Did you record one of them rubber chickens for the combat sounds? Chicken.

Developer

Haha, no I grabbed it off pixbay. They sound different because one is reversed (I'm probably gna down pitch it and reverb it post-jam, just to make it more crunchy and weird)

This game was surreal! The mechanics are simple but the bizarreness of it all really hooked me. Great work! Chicken chicken chicken.

Developer

Thank you for playing! It still needs some time in the oven, but I'm glad you enjoyed what's there!
