Really interesting game!
I found it very easy in the beginning, but then there was a point where I was worried my character was going to die (and I was making a lot of progress)! Very cool! I liked the combination of a simple deckbuilder and a dungeon crawler, you did it well!
I also liked the final escape!
Very great game, the style of graphics are very nice, it felt like playing a classic ps1 game so I like that alot. The combat idea is good, reminding me of slay the spire but the big problem with it is that it is too easy, as I only need to use damage upgrades and nothing else, my damage would one shot most enemies so meant there is no point selecting any other cards.
I like the style and feel of this game a lot and I think it would be so much better if combat was balanced to be more fun and challenging but great work on this game it was a very good one to play.
Great job setting a vibe. The dungeon entrance unfurling was an impressive touch of flair.
I'm not sure the card acquisition/upgrade system is well tilted in the player's favour. I beat the game, but only on my third playthrough, knowing ahead of time what I was in for, and with some lucky pulls early on.
It seems like you need to keep upgrading your damage to keep pace with the enemies, since specing into healing or shielding early on isn't a reliable way to end fights quickly and with no damage.
And given you die when you run out of cards, and enemies can heal, you were incentivized to pour most of your upgrades into one card, so you could reliably deal a killing blow. If the enemy heals and I know I don't have the collective damage to get them back down, I'm just a dead man walking.
Acquiring new cares is useful sometimes; if you pull a Damage 3, a Heal or a Shield 4, since it allows you to skip a few upgrades, and actually gives you a chance to heal without making a net loss. But if you don't land those valuable cards, you've wasted an upgrade opportunity.
This is also to say I never used the remove option, given how vital the arms race was against the ever strengthening enemies.
All that to say, it was a short enough game that it didn't really piss me off. I was actually pretty close on my first run. And the surprise dash out of the dungeon got me pretty engaged. Mostly because I thought the timer said 12 seconds, not 1 minute 12. 😅
So, still a really fun entry.
Got the golden egg.
Great aestetic, nice animations (except that one door that made me stand for too long in front of it! whyyy?), amazing sound design, nice and easy to follow level too.
Kind of gave me doom vibes, which is a good thing!
The combat though. Is there a way to beat the game without just updating one chicken? I tried oh I tried at the start with multiple reloads. RNG hurts. Often it would offer me 3 non damaging chickens as new ones from the start. That was almost guarantee death on 4th enemy (can't say guarantee, maybe I missed something). The fact that you auto lose if you run out of cards makes it impossible to actually build a deck early on... 4th enemy heals for too much and you have no means to push through while having only 3 additional cards. The only real way to beat all of it is just to update update update and oneshot (almost) all the enemies.
It kind of could be solved if there would be more weak enemies at the start with limit on updates for the cards too, so people won't cheat that way!
Nice game. Easy movement and a creepy 3D Dungeon Style. Engaging combat system. Got the Golden Egg! Good work!
The golden egg is mine!
The game looks and sounds good, the animation when you open the underground area is awesome and I love that you're not denied control while it happens. I like the over-the-top mix between a dark atmosphere and a silly chicken thing.
In theory I like the combat system including the choice at the end of a fight although in practice just keeping upgrading a damage card, or better first buying a 3 damage one then upgrading this one for 1 extra point of damage, will bring you to the end of the game undamaged. The running away part was cool with the appropriate time in the context.
Cool!
Really creepy world! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Dungeon Crawler Jam.
I really liked this game. Deck builders are some of my favorite games and I think having unlimited upgrades per card and having the player choose between upgrading cards or deck management is a great strategic feature. One thing I would like to see is some evidence other than text that says a card was upgraded. Like, changing the border color of the card or adding stars/gold bars to the side, etc.
The level design was A+, I really liked how I needed to really explore to find the switches, the next area, etc but the levels didn't overstay their welcome.
I LOVED loved loved loved LOVED the transition into the underground area. It was so sick! Really above and beyond for a jam game.
I haven't completed the game yet, my browser keeps "reloading the page because it's using too much energy" and the game restarts when that happens but I'll switch to my desktop PC later and give it a try there.
The golden egg is mine!!!
When I turn to the left by the red sewer the light goes out for some reason. And there seems to be a small gap in some of the textures when playing fullscreen.
Door opening animations look nice as well as the levers.
Flickering light in the basement looks awesome and really give an immersive feeling.
The door that opens upwards is a bit slow and you really have to wait for it to finish before you can pass it. Feels a bit off.
The combat system is fine, but the cards needs some work to make it fun. I basically just kept upgrading one card and using it to insta kill most enemies.
Overall very good sound design for the game!
Well done!
This dungeon was great! The art and atmosphere was awesome, movement mechanics spot on and the combat was, while simple, was enjoyable. I did play through a second time to let the timer run out and see if maybe there was a secret fight, there wasn't but that's ok.
I think there could be some tuning to the combat, I initially died as the enemies scale up basically with each fight and I ran out of cards fighting a ghost who healed a bunch. I found simply pumping up the damage on the 3 damage chicken card was the path easiest path to victory. Maybe some sort of resource mechanic that allowed you to use multiple cards or if cards had multiple effects (shield + attack) might add another dimension to combat where it almost never seemed useful to heal or use a shield due to not being able to do anything else.
Overall solid entry. Well done.
Gameplay here around the 30s mark
I had fun playing this! Nice and atmospheric dungeon. Simple but fun combat mechanics. Nice touch with a little verticality. I would've liked strafe and turn buttons to be switched, but no biggie.
Well done :)
The level design was stellar with the textures, lighting and 3D models. The animation with the chicken statue was super cool. The combat was nice and took me a few tries to get the egg. Great job!
I've made it to the end!) it's a bit hard but cool card game. More like a tactic game experience, balancing between stealth, heal and damaging opponents.
Really fun game and I liked your mix of deck builder and dungeon crawler. There was def a power creep, since I could just put all my upgrades into one damage chicken and 1 shot all but 1 enemy. Overall, I really liked the vibes, the lighting, and the polish. Great job!
I really like this game, the fight is pretty cool and the way you upgrade the chicken to fight kinda reminds me of that game I play called Die in the Dungeon where you upgrade dice. Wish I thought of this awesome game. I really like the animations, but they kinda slow the game down with long wait times. Also, the lighting in the dungeon looks great and goes really well with the sound. The chicken weapons don’t reset when you use them all up, so if you run out, you end up dying. That sucks. Overall, it’s a pretty cool game.
Nice, I made a deck builder too! Interesting to see how different our entries came out. Really love the atmosphere you develop at the start, the transition to enter combat is awesome!
The deck building mechanics are a bit under developed, but I love that you made all the cards chickens :D It would be nice to see how much damage im going to take.etc so I can make more informed decisions while playing. I think this kind of deckbuilder needs an energy system instead of just 1 card per turn.
Great work!
