Description
Tale of the Birdfolk is a small fantasy soundtrack inspired by the idea of a forgotten culture whose music still survives through memory, imitation, and tradition.

The soundtrack is written in FL Studio.

As soon as I read the theme, I decided to use Dorian as it's one of my favorite fantasy genres.

Track 1 — Birdfolk Symphony

This piece represents the first encounter with the Birdfolk and their music.
The piece is mainly written in E Dorian, toward the later section, it rises into F.

Track 2 — By Firelight

This piece represents a traveler sitting beside a campfire and learning the Birdfolk's melody directly from them.

Hi there! I haven't listened to your submission yet and I'm sure it's great, but I'm here to ask that you don't use AI for your cover art next time (if you used it) you participate as it makes people uncomfortable and less likely to listen to your submission. You could use a photo editing website like Canva, an app like Microsoft Paint, or you could find a stock photo from the internet or maybe take a photo! Hope you can find an alternative than just using AI!

Developer

Thank you! Now I changed the cover image to completely forbid AI use. I’m learning drawing and hopefully I can draw the cover next time!

This was a nice listen. I liked how you used the Birdsong motif in the other song, but you used it to create a different vibe.

Bird fork symphony was quite well done. The woodwind you used was a great fit. I think to improve it, perhaps give it a softer attack and decay at times to make it feel more alive. Your use of triplets was also very nice. It really is just a matter of more advanced mixing to make the songs come to life more.

You also said that you used your own image to create the AI image but that is very likely still going to rub people the wrong way so I highly advise not using AI anywhere in your art going forwards. Just use the base image as it will have more character and charm than any AI image could, and people especially appreciate real art in this scene.

Thank you very much for your advise! I’ll forbid the use of AI from now on!

Hey! Thanks for the submission and creating some music! I mostly agrees with the points SaikoGabu commented on. You have an ear for this, I think, and expressing ideas through music! I would start with expanded that frequency range for sure! Play around! Create some beautiful harmonies! Thanks for submitting!

Pretty little tracks, the melodies are well written.

Here are the things I think that could be improved

Birdfolk Symphony

The main theme is well defined, you also changed once the instrument of the melody to make it less redundant, but I'd suggest to do it more times, because the theme was repeated quite a lot of times. Eventually add even more variations to the theme that you could alternate with the main melody to make it even less repetitive (some structures I like are AABA, ABAB...).

I also felt like the harmony was a bit weak. The song has plenty of mid/mid-high frequencies but lacks a lot of the lower frequencies that usually act as a foundation for the song. I'd layer at least one more instrument or add a note an octave below the root of the chord you're playing to start fixing this.

Also, the modulation near the end was a bit brutal. There are some techniques that you can use to introduce a modulation, for example for harmonic techniques it'd be a passing chord, a secondary dominant etc. or use percussions to introduce it. Suspended cymbals are widely used to introduce new parts. You can also use timpani rolls, or snare rolls or other percussions rolls. That leads to the last remark I have, the lack of percussions. From what I've read about your story and felt about the song, I felt like it was meant to be somewhat of a dancing song. Even if not, it has quite some rhythm and should have some light percussions anyway. What I would use would be the classic bodhran for irish-inspired gigs, castanets, or more recently I've took a liking for the bongo.

I really liked the vibe of this one. Especially the harp runs.

However, for this one as well, it lacks a bit of frequencies from low to mid that would give the song a lot more warmness.

I noticed you reused and adapted your main theme, and I liked that. It made your two tracks feel connected.

Overall it was a pleasant little OST.

Congrats for finishing the jam !
