Description
" Those left behind " is a game about exploring a long forgotten city whose architectural style fits in an exaggerated version of brutalism. People still inhabit this place and are split into little colonies dotted about the place, some live down in the slums, other live high up above on the rooftops.
My main inspiration for the theming is the indie game BABBDI, other inspirations include Hollow knight, Silksong and Nine sols.
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I felt like a setting like this would work within the given theme, not every forgotten civilization has to be high fantasy, it can be as simple as a town from our world, long forgotten by time.

I liked the melodic rhythm of triplets you used in Denizens. It was fun to follow along with. That one was my favorite for that reason. The rest all fit the theme nicely, I just enjoy songs where I can hum a melody and that one had the best melody IMO.
I appreciate the honesty and seriousness of the approach you’ve taken to the theme. It comes through beautifully in the songs; they aren't merely sad in that sweet, melancholic sense, oh no, they are painful and nostalgic. I truly feel the presence of the lost dreams behind those gray walls.
My favorite is definitely "Concrete Giants"—it's charming with that piano, has a good melody, and that string section is beautiful.
Overall it was a cool OST with really interesting vibes. What I liked was the nostalgic vibe, mostly thanks to the piano. I also enjoyed Denizens's powerful yet nostalgic vibe, it was really interesting. I could also follow your story quite well in Those left behind - Rooftops. Looking at the title, it fits quite well if the picture behind the track is the people enjoying their life on roofs while others are struggling down there.
Now for more negative points: I think overall the themes are repeated a bit too much. It wouldn't be as hardly felt if the background textures or instruments, or the ones playing the melodies were changing after a couple of bars. Otherwise, developping the themes by making slightly different versions or making the themes longer are also a way to repeat less.
The mix was also sounding muddy sometimes (=too many low/low-mid frequencies), like quite a bit in Those left behind - Rooftops, and a little bit in Concrete Giants. I understand though that the low frequencies were increased in Those left behind to give more impact to the piano.
Nonetheless, congrats for finishing the jam !
