Description
Rewinding the Gears is the end credits theme for an action-adventure game entitled Time Gears, based in a steampunk universe.

It has been composed for the Precision OST Jam #1, and I choosed the 5th level of precision.

I choosed to use instruments like the harpsichord, the pipe organ and the accordion for the steampunk ambiance, and I used SFX related to clocks (ticks, bells and cuckoo) to relate with the title.

The first part is only in dorian, sounds nostalgic and calm, and introduce the first leitmotiv of the track. Then, the music becomes dynamic, and has a strange and dark progression (Gm | F#). We can encounter the leitmotiv of the beginning in the part with the accordion.

Very nice! Love the accordion as an instrument in here as well as the clock, especially at the speed up after the intro. And I am utterly in love with the pitching of the bell/gong sounds at the end.

My nitpicks: If possible, I would move the two accordion lines further apart or remove one octave of the doubled notes from each, as soon as both are playing. Right now, there is significant overlap in the spectrum and especially starting at bar 89, when the orchestra track is also kicking in, those two arpeggio lines try to talk over each other, making the arrangement mushy and the individual voices difficult to differentiate. And while I get the cuckoo as a clock element, its presence feels somewhat exaggerated. If it were a more background element and maybe also introduced earlier, I think it might work better in this piece - as it is, it feels like a comic relief in a track that does not need one.

I agree with you on the two points, especially about the arrangement at the end. Thanks for commenting!

And because I'm German and we don't intuitively apply the praise sandwich: Please don't read my nitpicks as me being unhappy with your creation - after careful, critical listening, I could come up with only two things I would change (one of which being 100% based on personal taste). Your piece is great and you better be proud of it! You might run into the awkward situation that you are the host of the jam and among the highest ranked participants =D

Loved all the SFX in this! The ticking speeding up to get to the next section was particularly cool. My only criticism on this one is the drums, I thought the quality of them was lacking a bit due to them just feeling like a stock drum plugin but there are some really good free sounding drum plugins you should check out! Steven Slate Drums I think has a free version with a couple of kits that sound great. I thought the harpsichord and accordion complimented each other well and helped your track stand out! Nice job, and thanks for hosting this jam!

Thank you for the comment ! Indeed, I really don't know how to use drums, and will check the Steven Slate Drum plugin.
