Design Statement
Upon listening to the theme track, we immediately thought of the vast everness of space, and funnily enough, monkeys swinging in a forest. Something we kept coming back to was the idea of the world waking up, then keeping harmoniously in motion. We then decided to combine these ideas and tie them around our central feeling. Our submission is built around the idea of flow. All the mechanics in the game were intentionally designed to get the player into the flow state, while still challenging their mechanical skill. This meant that we needed simple controls that combined well with each other, so that brain power wasn’t wasted on trying to remember anything complex. The game is very reactionary, again reinforcing the idea of flow, by having the player quickly make decisions that chain into each other. A monkey swinging through a forest combined with our setting and color palette represents a coalescence of our early inspirations, but tied closely to the compelling gameplay.

Game Instructions (launch steps, controls, and gameplay overview)
To Launch game: Download the windows or mac build from https://kitaquil.itch.io/monkey-star depending on your device.
If Windows: Unzip the downloaded folder and double-click the .exe file to launch the game.
If MacOs: Unzip the downloaded folder double-click. Then go to settings, privacy and enable the file permissions and open anyway. Double click the game again to launch the game.
Left Click (LMB) to hook on a branch when you are close enough to gain momentum
A/D to steer left and right while mid air
Space while near the side of a tree or on top of a branch for a boost
