THE ELECTROCUTED SQUIRREL SPRITE 😭😭😭

Developer(+1)

That sprite turned out better than I thought for a quickly drawn sprite near the jam deadline at 3am 💀

Oh my God, good job!

How silly!! Creative for the idea and the limited amount of time you had! The web version was slightly laggy, but it was doable. Having some generous checkpoints would really help! Good job!

Fun idea, liked playing the way you included the spinning motion! Very creative and of course very serious!

Submitted(+1)

Very fun idea, I appreciate spinning mouse as controls :D

Lovely and cute art; shame audio wasn't there to go with it (although understandable looking @ your description).

Good job!

The idea is very fun, and the art looks super cute! I had some trouble with the mechanics (I didn't always get why sometimes my little squirrel just kept sinking, even though I was spinning like crazy), but overall it only took some getting-used-to. A few things that would have helped me: checkpoints (I know it's not super long, but I've just run into the same obstacle so many times 😆) and more popping powerlines. Well done, especially as you have mentioned you only had a few hours to make it!

I love how game jams often lead to absolutely crazy ideas like this one:) The art is honestly quite charming and the controls are funny without overstaying their welcome. Good job given the conditions you had to make the game under!

Fascinating control scheme. I can't even reverse engineer why it feels so natural, but it totally works. Great squirrel art by the way!

Developer

When I had the idea I thought it would be silly and kind of hard to control, I was surprised how quick I got used to it, glad you like my art! ❤️

I've only spent ten minutes with this squirrel and I love her. Him? Them? Didn't read, doesn't matter. The Resting Squirrel Face seals the deal.

Developer

Resting squirrel face 😆 I love it! I’ve kept the squirrels gender ambiguous, glad you like them!

I LOVE squirrels, the art was super cute!! I feel like the mouse spinning was kinda sensitive tho

I lost sooo many times lol, but it was still really fun!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Glad you liked the art ❤️  it’s my first time making all original art for a game (and my first time in years doing any sort of drawing). I could have done with adding a sensitivity slider.

Fun little game!

Mechanically, I thought it was generally intuitive and nice to play, but probably could have benefited from a way to decelerate quickly (or maybe I just have  a skill issue).

Art looks great too.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! That’s a  good idea! Hadn’t thought about that, would add more depth to the controls

Submitted(+1)

Adorable and weird little platformer, haha. The art for the squirrel is fantastic - had a little issue figuring out where I needed to go/what was dangerous, but found my family soon enough. Would've loved some silly helicopter noises while spinning, but good job getting this all together.

Glad you liked the art! My first time making all my own art so I’m glad people like it! Definitely going to add silly helicopter noises after voting, wish I had more time to add sounds, submitted it at 4am when I had a flight to catch the next day 😅

Submitted(+1)

I love the concept!! There's a lot of things here that's definitely in need of an upgrade, like the physics, level design, some visuals/sound, and camera. But I imagine if those things were here, this game would be very very fun and cute!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Definitely more of a prototype as I didn't have much time to work on the jam due to work commitments, I want to update it after the voting period to finish adding all the things I originally wanted in the game but didn't get time to add, I've got a lot of To Dos still sitting in my game design document that never got implemented due to time constraints. Glad you got the cute vibes I was going for, it's my first time fully making the art for my games from scratch rather than using assets made by others.

I struggled to get through this one, but eventually I finished.

A full-screen option would be really helpful, as the original game was much larger than my monitor, so I had to zoom out to 50 to play it.

If you continue to tinker with it, I often wished I would have fallen faster when I stopped spinning. So many times I flew up into a wire that I thought I could dodge. I rarely had problems getting off the ground though, so a little more "weight" to the fall may help to adjust that feel a bit. Cute idea though!

the imprecise nature of the controls dont mesh super well with the tightness of the powerlines for learning the game, it is a lot of fun tho once you get the hang of it and i love the spinning tail, it feels like you need to remember what the level looks like instead of being able to react to it and its a bit unclear where you are actually trying to go but it isnt super long so not the biggest deal, making the powerlines stand out more would be nice because going right from the building i did not register in my brain what they were until after i hit them but wasnt a problem the second go through there

it is a very cute game and really great for what it is

Submitted(+1)

Love the fact that flying squirrels exist, but this one just uses its tail. Great game - I enjoyed playing it!

Developer

Thanks!

AHAHAHAHA 🤣 I love it!!

My only complaint is that the game is too large for my screen, wished i could see the pigeons better

some sfx  would be nice but even without that, 7-8/10

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! The idea of a squirrel raised by birds learning to fly by spinning its tail came to me Saturday morning after watching the theme announcement video the night before. Wasn’t planning to participate because of the overlap with my work trip, but thought the idea needed realising and I wanted to try making a game with all original art for the first time 😀

The flying pigeons were actually drawn while I was flying in the plane for my trip 🐦

Pretty creative game mechanic. Having to spin your mouse to make the squirrel fly is a fun idea. Despite the unfinished polish, the concept is still interesting. Good job on that!
