I loved the sound design and voice acting here and can't wait to face the other characters. The gameplay was simple but with the presentation worked really well. Like I said on the Discord I'd add an application role to the main game element if you want it to play better with screen readers without making people manually enter forms mode. I'll definitely be coming back once the other characters are added.

I think it's a case of me being absolutely terrible at the game but I just couldn't dodge those punches. Maybe my timing was off. I absolutely loved the presentation though, the atmosphere was there, the acting was great and the sound effects really sold the idea of a being in a ring. The game took me there and I even felt like a proper character! I'm chalking up my lack of progress to a severe skill issue and saying that this was a good entry, thumbs up

Oh no! Sorry to hear you're having trouble D:

Is the sound moving properly from your left and right sides? What does your character say when you try to dodge? And if it helps, you can block (down arrow key) at ANY time if you're worried your timing is gonna be off before pressing the Dodge key. Keep at it! The game is tuned to be approached with patience until you get the movement patterns down.

Thank you for playing!

Challenge accepted, I'll keep at it and experiment with different timing. It's clearly a good game, it would be a shame to go out for the count without getting a little further. Let's get ready to rumble!!

Oh this was great, and I loved how you included the extra voice actors in the credits as a tease for what's to come! All worked first time. Looking forward to the full version!

Great job on the submission! I really enjoyed the first fight, and the voice acting was great all around. I also super appreciate all the sound-effects that really made it feel like a boxing match!

The gameplay was intuitive, and I enjoyed the way that the game let you block to get a feel for the opponent and push forward.

It works! I played the web version. Nicely done. Not my kind of game but still a fun time (getting punched)

I’m not a fan of the way this game is packaged. It’s an installer that doesn’t tell me where the files are going, which, I feel like, I should know where things are being installed on my system. It also crashed several times. I had to run it a total of 3 times to get it to finish because it went unresponsive which lagged out my screen reader.

As for the gameplay itself, it’s not bad. I think the female voice acting was far superior to the male - who sounded like someone using speech to speech with an Eleven Labs voice if I’m being frank.

I don’t know how the future fights will progress, but as for the completion of the tutorial, after the first time when it’s mandatory to do so, there’s really no need to brace.

The first fight is a great start. I played through this twice, once with each voice actor, which is a neat choice. I liked being able to pause at any time, where I immediately pushed all of the sounds up to 100%. The tutorial was great in how it introduced the concepts and let me loose with the rest of the match. I liked how lenient it was with giving me three lives here. I hope the rest of the fights don’t hold my hand too much after this. There are some inconsistencies in the overall volume levels and dynamic ranges of the voice actors, and the sliders on the settings screen can feel somewhat unresponsive to fast inputs. Also, when opening the desktop build, NVDA needed me to switch to application focus mode for it to recognize my inputs. Nice work!

Thank you!

Cocky John is meant to be the Glass Joe of the game, the rest of the opponents require a TKO to beat and will have a much higher Stagger and HP threshold. The movement patterns also get faster and more complex with punch combos.

The varying volumes for the actors is the mature of getting the assets from so many different people, all that will be evened out in the final version.

Any advice for the NVDA thing? Did you play on Desktop or Windows?

Looking forward to future updates! Glad you have a plan to get things finished. Please let us know when it’s ready, because I’m sure it will be a hit!

I played the desktop build on Windows with NVDA enabled to test screen reader compatibility.

I can’t speak specifically to GDevelop, but if NVDA is interpreting your application as a document, then it needs to explicitly tell it that it’s an application. For an HTML document, that would be accomplished by adding role="application" to the <body> or <main> element. You may need to consult your documentation for the actual fix. Otherwise, the workaround for an NVDA user is to press Insert+Space when they open your game.

As of 3/3/2025, the game is now in a playable state that includes the first fight of the game! If you've played this already I encourage y'all to try it again, and the game's Itch Page now includes a link to play it in the Web Browser if you can't Download the game. Thank You!

Great sound design.

An interesting beginning, I am curious that it will turn into.

Try it now!

Unfortunately, I cannot play this. It downloads the .exe file but when I try and play it says you do not have permission to play this game. You might have some files missing or something like that. Would love to try this out but wanted to post this error just to play this game but wanted to post this error to be safe. Thanks for making this by the way. Once the issue gets fixed with playing would love to see how it turns out.

You can play it online here now! https://www.newgrounds.com/projects/games/6494693/preview

I just tried that. Sorry, with my screen reader cannot figure out where to find the controls. The loading stuff plays and asks for what kind of voice I want but cannot figure out where on the screen to use any of the controls. I'm not trying to be difficult here or anything, just what is happening is all. I had this issue with the permission thing I mentioned before with another game for this jam too so maybe isn't just you having it.

Disclaimer: As of 2/28 this is just a placeholder testing build uploaded to meet the deadline. The game in this current state is unplayable.

In this game you play as a mysterious new fighter entering the International Boxing League. What sets this fighter apart is that they have total blindness.

You play as Sam Shadow. Use your sense of hearing to learn the opponent's movement patterns and dodge the punches until you can counter attack.

This game is played using the arrow keys. Headphones or a stereo-speaker setup is required to properly play the game.
