Very pretty game!
I liked the references to previous rounds (if I'm not mistaken)
For me, this will be the standard of polish, I think I will return to the game more than once.
Love the art style. Reminds me of Yoshi's Crafted World a bit.
One thing that I would change to the gameplay loop is that when you kill all the enemies you can automatically continue to the next level with all characters, now it kinda feels like a task when you have 13 different animals that you need to slowly walk to the exit. This takes the flow out of the game play loop a bit I want to go to the next level since I'm excited to see the other characters. :D
Very good character design, so many different characters and different abilities.
Yeah, it's supposed to be able to advance after killing all enemies. But it is kind of buggy, so it won't trigger sometimes. I somehow never encountered it when I playtested myself and found out about it after the submission time. Sorry about that.
Glad you like the art style.
amazing polish, great job!
Besides getting stuck on the tutorial screen everything worked perfectly! The artstyle is cute and even without fancy animation the game comes across very alive. I did not know you were adding a cameo from my game im sorry otherwise id make on for you too!! (If i make it trough ill make it up to you)
Great job and really good as a recreate!!
Very faithful to the original but also felt a lot more relaxing and casual than the fast paced arcade game. Well done! Had everything needed for the round.
Such a cosy game!
Great work with all the small details, for example I like how you kept the layout of levels as in the original.
Impressive variety of characters and Incredible level of polish!
I was a bit confused in the beginning with the tutorial though - I couldn't find the way to close it because it had multiple pages and the "back" button was in the end. But the "left" - "right" buttons are not as noticeable... I would suggest to make some "pop" animation so the player will see them right away or to make tutorial in one page, or to make "back" button always available (not just in the end of tutorial)
But that was the only nitpick :) Ah, also I got my character captured after I defeated the level but there was one projectile that got me shortly after :D
Great game with very cosy atmosphere and a nice level of challenge :) I wish I got 11 points more in my score :D :D :D
Really good job! I love the variety of characters, and soo many special abilitys.
I do think i could spam the leaderboard with the submit button, because all my scores are kept there.
I love this! The level of character design is incredible for how many there are. All the attacks feel so polished, and clever (love all the references). I had an issue similar to Simoncb where I had so zoom out my browser to 75% zoom to fit it onscreen. I think forcing the game to fullscreen might take care of that? Either way, it's a small issue.
The only bugs I found other than the ant and beetle were that during my second playthrough after I lost the first time, I still had to exit all my guys even after killing all enemies. Then, I think on level 6 the bug suddenly went away and I could kill all enemies to clear a level. I also had the duping glitch that others mentioned.
I think in the grand scheme of things, the characters are the core of the game and you implemented those flawlessly. I will keep coming back until I am #1 on this leaderboard.
This was pretty fun.
I did have trouble getting the whole game to fit on screen but maybe I missed something.
Good Job.
Sorry about the game not fitting on the screen. I’m not sure what caused it, though. The game is 720 x 960, so it’s supposed to fit most screens.
Really fun game, definitely one of the best this round. I like the different strategies that can be made on the journey and its good how the elephant can't always fit in places and it's a lot of fun trying out all of the different abilities. The level design, the art style and all of the UI in the game is simply amazing. Some minor things that I think are worth mentioning though: I did get trapped on the second level where the cage blocked the bridge if you save someone else beforehand and I had to refresh to start again, I wished there was a full screen button (it was still okay to play when zoomed out though) and just a personal preference is to have the bullets follow the mouse cursor (at first I thought my aim was off) but I still like the challenge of 8 direction shooting so maybe having space to shoot for that could work. I'm impressed with what you have and can see this doing really well!
Super fun game, i really like the paper aesthetic! the fact that you aim with mouse but the bullets are still locked to 8 directions threw me off a bit though. overall really good!
This is definitely a nice take of the original game. Loved the artstyle and the feel of it :D really nicely done!
I had a bug where the levels wouldn't auto-advance after clearing all the enemies, so I had to manually move all my party to the endzone every level since level 3 or so, which was a bit annoying lol
Love the variety of special abilities too. Some definitely inspired by the original, while others were completely new and amusing in their own way. Really cool!
Overall a very high quality game, excellent job :D
The artstyle is incredible clean and well executed, great job there. The UI was also really clean and well implemented although the character descriptions that appear when you hover messed up a lot. There is so much polish present and I think you nailed the gain ground inspiration. The audio is very polished and makes the game feel really juicy. I feel like the special attacks were a bit too overpowered, once I started using them I almost entirely stopped attacking. I liked this as it made the different characters feel unique however I mostly used the rabbit and ant as their abilities are incredibly good. The birb cameo was welcome and a fun albeit risky character to play. I ran into quite a few bugs, namely characters I had kept getting duplicated and sometimes even replacing other characters. It seemed like when you beat all the enemies you automatically complete the level but only sometimes. Finally one time I died the moment I spawned as the elephant and then my next character instantly got pushed out of the map. I thought I was softlocked but managed by way around it to the exit. That being said none of these bugs really were too major. Overall, great job!
Thanks for playing. Sorry about the game being buggy. I encountered the duplication bug in the playtest myself, but I cannot replicate it afterwards. So I'm just not sure where the problem is.
The Gain Ground system has a lot of different conditions for stage clear, and the code is quite messy😩.
I definitely think giving the cage a collision to block players was a mistake. It doesn't add any gameplay value.
I really appreciate all the feedback. Thank you.
Killed it as usual.
I'm particularly impressed by the amount of work that went into the UI and the unique art-style.
I also really enjoyed all the easter-eggs and I was very happy to see a cameo of Coco the Raven from my round 2 submission!
Keep up the good work.
You're getting top marks from me. You did a fantastic job. You really nailed the mechanics from Gain Ground, all the different enemy types, to the different character abilities worked very well together. The game was challenging enough to keep me coming back for more. The sound effects and backing music were very pleasant on the ear and the UI was top notch as well. Super polished entry, there's nothing to criticise. Excellent job man!
The textures are sublime, the art is very charming, and the music rocks.
Its hard to find flaws in this game, bravo! I like how the levels are even based on the original.
Aaaaand beetle cameo too
Love it!
