How does your game fit the theme?
FLAPPY BIRD IS ALWAYS THE SAME!

BUT! THE BIRDS WANT TO BREAK THE LOOP!!!

THEY HAVE HAD ENOUGH! THEY ALWAYS GET CRUSHED BY THE PIPES!

THEY WANT TO ATTACK YOUR CASTLE!

The concept of breaking the classic Flappy Bird was really interesting, and the overall atmosphere matched quite well with the original game, giving both a sense of familiarity and novelty at the same time. Great job with that!

The music is good and fits the atmosphere you wanted to convey. However, I believe the gameplay is somewhat lacking in resources and has tremendous potential to be expanded to make the player's experience more satisfying.

Here are some ideas I thought of for your game, in case you want to expand it in the future:

- A screen shake when hitting enemies, along with a strong impact sound, making the player feel like the pipe is really "crushing" the bird and defending the castle.

- Feather particles flying when a bird dies, further increasing the game feel and making it more satisfying to defeat each one.

- Birds with different colors and behaviors. Perhaps a bird that requires two hits to die, one that is faster than the others, one that moves in zigzags, or even birds that explode when destroyed if the pipe is too close, causing a small delay before it can be used again.

- Upgrades for the castle, making it more than just an objective to be protected by the pipes and part of the gameplay as well. Maybe guards or weapons shooting projectiles at spots defined by the player, hitting the birds consecutively.

- Constant movement in the background scenery to give a sense of progression, perhaps with day/night cycles. It might be illogical to do this with the castle because you could wonder, "Why would a castle move like that?" But nothing a crazy backstory can’t solve, like a magical pipe protecting the castle from assassin birds that are constantly chasing it as it moves on small wheels at its bottom.

- The possibility of moving the pipe horizontally, making the variety of enemies and strategies broader, as we wouldn’t have to just click the attack button when a bird enters the attack radius of the pipe.

These are some ideas I had that could help both in the current game and future projects, making the gameplay more fun and varied. I hope something is useful to you, here or in the future.

Congratulations on the project and good luck with the jam!

This was probably the only bug-free game in the Jam so that's good. Given the Flappy Bird theme I was expecting a bit more in terms of gameplay challenge. Not sure if this should be solved with variety of challenges (since again: Flappy Bird). I think you should rather focus on finding a central mechanic that is repeated, yet still challenging and fun. Have fun

A fun and creative twist on Flappy Bird! I like the idea of breaking the classic loop, and the visuals match the lighthearted style well. However, I noticed that some players found an exploit by keeping the pipes closed, maybe adding a cooldown or an energy limit could balance that out. Also, a bit more variety in gameplay (like different enemy types or obstacles) could make it even more engaging. Adding sound effects would also help enhance the atmosphere. Overall, great effort, especially for a game made in such a short time! Keep it up!

Thank you so much!

A nice little Flappy Bird variant!

The game was simple (maybe a bit too simple and some extra variation would have been extra fun) and colorful, with a cheerful visual style that matched well with the upbeat background music. Maybe some SFX and some extra VFX would also have enhanced the atmosphere even more.

However, I couldn’t quite see the connection to the theme—were you breaking the Flappy Bird loop? If so, that’s an interesting interpretation!

Since it’s an HTML game, you might consider hosting it on itch.io next time. That way, more people can easily play it without extra effort.

Keep going for your next games! 🎮✨

Thank you for your suggestions. Indeed, your guess is right. This is how I interpreted the theme. The reason that there aren't sound effects is because I had only 1 day to make it. And actually, I don't know how to put it on Itch.io.

For future games and game jams, always make sure the game is fully playable in the browser if you already provide an HTML file. Many people prefer quick access, and it can make a big difference in how much your game gets played and rated! I see that you aimed to break the loop by presenting Flappy Bird in a new way. However, the gameplay itself feels like it's trapping the player in an endless loop rather than actually breaking it - except by losing. Because of that, the connection to the jam's theme feels a bit weak...The art fits well, but I was missing SFX or music that enhances the experience. The current track feels a bit too intense for the gameplay. Still, nice effort! A little polish and a clearer connection to the theme would make it even better.

I find the idea quite simple and enjoyable, but I found out I could exploit the mechanic by keeping the pipe closed. Maybe an energy bar or a timer to prevent the player from spamming it would make it more of a challenge!

Thanks! Actually I didn't have that much time to make it, because it was made in less than one day! :)

I love flappy bird let flap away.

Probably best if you had made your file an index.html so itch can serve it. However i downloaded the html and it worked fine. A fun take on flappy bird.  However i found if i just kept the pipes closed i did not had to do anything else as the birds just kept dying

Thanks for seeing my game! :D
