Description
Drum and Bass, Looter Shooter. Our only Track, Impulse Control, is a starting cutscene that leads into some gameplay! The alarm sounds, our protagonist is introduced, and the inevitable happens . . .

Message from the artist
Thumbnail by my pal, SpookyMicMellow. He's also helped me a lot while composing the track, talking about the game and what it could be. He's the best, check out his stuff!

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
"Itchy Brain", is a game about impulsive thoughts. Every impulsive thought passing feeling our protagonist has becomes real, without exception. He has total freedom of expression, with no restrictions - often to his own detriment. To match this idea, the track contains alot of crescendos, anticipation, a fast beat, and far too much bass for any car speakers to render properly!

GREAT SOUND DESIGN! The kick is top notch! That percussion is slapping!

In short - I like it

P.S. Rawr :>

Cool art and love the idea of referring to intrusive thoughts as "itchy brain." Also low key the most terrifying story concept I've ever read, though perhaps that is more telling of what goes on inside of my own head lmao

Love the overall energy of the track, and the crescendo around 0:45 is pretty hype. I'm tempted to play this in my car to see if my car speakers, too, become itchy. Great work!

i like the high energy on this one! Going over the story you wrote, I can totally see this being apart of the game you're describing! I like the drums in this track especially! also cool cover art! Good work :)

Loved the manic feel to it, really emphasises the protag's lack of control over what he's creating

First of all, awesome artwork.

The track was also great, though not totally my style, I can see how it would perfectly in the game you described. : ]

Love the energy in this, aggressive and full of all kinds of dangerous flavors. Especially liked the transition around 1:18 where it goes into a semi-happy bassline, in a way it kinda reminded me of the happy-go-crazy chaos in "Your Best Nightmare" from Undertale which is really great. I do think the mix could use some work particularly in cleaning up the bass frequencies, it felt like there was a lot of overlap between the kick and bass which made it hard to distinguish between the two. Overall very cool composition and very cool game concept!

I really like this idea of a chaotic and uncontrollable freedom ahah, pretty good ! Your idea is well illustrated :)

Art is killer for this - great work.

Regarding the track - some cool choices of synth patches here. Liking the fact that there is just a little grit to spice up the mix a little. Having the bass take to the forefront for some sections is a clever way of subverting expectations and puts a cool twist on the track. Percussion right before the last quieter section in the track was pretty sick; adding in some extra elements really helps to add some life to the track.

Solid work. Mixing was pretty good though I feel like some elements later in the track were battling each other for focus. I think some additional pads or counter-melodies would help flesh out some sections, but all in all this is good work for the 48 hour period. Best of luck!

ohr this track is awesome! i love the way the piece evolves as it continues, very appropriate for a cutscene or cinematic in your conceptualized videogame! the volume change at 0:46 is a surprise, though depending on what other sounds occur in the cutscene it wouldn't necessarily be an issue.

to match the idea of destroying someone's car speakers LMAO i'd love to hear the basslines encroach into their rightful overtones and have some presence beyond the low range! either that or bring them forward more in the mix ^-^

dude that art is peak for sure. I like the bass-ey song here too!

See, the cover art may LOOK like someone giving a cool hand symbol, but really he's making two kissy faces with his hands and they're gonna kiss.

The percussion was really fun here and I would have liked it to be longer!

Wish you would have more time because the covert art + your take is super interesting.

The execution is really good too, and I feel like having more of it would have made it even better. Great work overall!

It's a shame the jam was short and you only had time for a single track to convey the idea. If you had time to do four in this style and arrangement? This would be awesome.
For what you have? I think it conveys it fairly - the MC is assailed by his own intrusive thoughts in a dizzying experience.
