Okay, so there are 8 cells that need to be powered in order to get the battery up and running again. Each cell requires a certain voltage in order to stay powered.
You can figure out the required voltage by trying a few combinations and seeing how full the charge bar gets. If it doesn't fill up, you need more volts. If it sparks red, then it is overfull and needs less volts.
Each cell uses a different amount of buttons in order to get the result, you can test this by clicking as many buttons at once and seeing how many stay on. Just because a cell can have 5 buttons active, doesn't mean you need 5 active.
